7" Plasma Ball

The product description says this is a 7" ball. This would lead one to believe that the ball itself is 7" in diameter. However, the ball is only about half that size and the entire unit, base included, is 7" tall - much smaller than I was expecting. The description is misleading and I'm quite disappointed as this was purchased as a Christmas gift and it's too late for me to return it. Even the product packaging looked like it had been opened already. I have purchased countless products through Amazon and have always been satisfied except for this time. Please, at least change the description so others are not misled. What a letdown!

This toy, when it works, is very nice. The colors are vibrant - gorgeous, even.
However, the quality is quite shoddy. My on/off button is very finicky. I have to toggle it to the exact right location to get it to stay on, which is somewhere between "on" and "off". Sometimes if it moves out of this exact position, it just shuts off on its own.
I'm disappointed, but it was only $[...], so, I can't complain much.

It's about 7 years ago I bought a plasma ball like this. Today it is about 1/5 of the price, but it still has that "oooh" effect on people - much more so than any other sub-$[..] item you'll find. The ability to respond to sound adds to the coolness factor, but on this particular model you cannot adjust the sensitivity as is common on others: Too quiet and it's off all the time; too loud and it is on all the time. Hence only 4 stars.

Take a step back into the disco era and have fun watching and playing with this 'lightning ball'. Ever been to Spencer's in the lamp department? There's a switch on the side so you can set this lamp up to react to the pulse of music, but make it loud. It's fun to see someone who has never seen one of these before get hypnotized for awhile and their reaction when they touch the sphere. It's just fun!

This is my first plasma globe, and I choosed carefully between this and the other plasma globes. Fortunately I choosed the one, which I exactly wanted. It is smart, working very well all day and night, and very entertaining with it's glowing purple lightning and as it touches the inner surface of the globe it's becoming pink.

I'm using it now for 3 months and I haven't got any problem with it. The glowing-on-sound option needs to turn up the volume high enough.

The orb is cool because it has hand touch activation and sound activation its a big orb and looks cool with the lights

My 12-year-old has been wanting a plasma ball for a few years now. He got this for Xmas and loves it. It has 2 settings. On one setting the light reacts to touch and on the other it reacts to music/sound. What could be more perfect for an iPod toting kid!?!

Update: 2 years later and this plasma ball was still going strong, until my husband dropped it. I was looking at other plasma balls, and a lot seem to stop working after 3 months or so. This one did NOT do that! It was still working 'till the bitter end! I am ordering this exact ball as a replacement!

My teenager got this for Christmas and the whole family is enjoying it immensely, including the baby! Very pretty and lots of fun!

The plasma ball was in excellent condition and was both entertaining and a creative toy. Perfect gift for a child of various ages. The colors were bright and the toy worked beautifully.This toy held the childrens attention from the time they first saw the toy and the toy kept thier attention for hours.What a great creation for children.

This will be the second Plasma ball I have ordered and it is the same problem. At first they work great, but then after a few days they begin to fade. The normal plasma discharge becomes faint and then after a while there is almost no reaction to the touch. I think if you simply do not use them except for shows and then only for a few minutes at a time they may be ok. It was just a Fad I was going though along with the Lava Lamps, and I am over that now. The Products do arrive quickly and they do work as promised at first. Not sure what I could have done to prolong the life.
