5.0 out of 5 stars Piano Pedagogy Resource
I found this book to be of great help, both as an educational guide to teaching and preparing for a career in piano pedagogy. In addition, what makes this book so valuable to me is it's additional resourcefulness as a bibliographical guide to further materials relating to this topic. Anyone serious about piano pedagogy and looking to further their knowledge and depth of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Shameful omission of Walter Schenkman's other two chapters
I have long owned and loved the original 1977 Stipes Publication of this book, especially for the three remarkably insightful and beautifully written chapters by Walter Schenkman. His "Baroque and Classical: Into the Earth and Away From It," for example, captured essential truths about gravity and its effect on the proper projection of upbeats and downbeats. I had never...

Anyone serious about piano pedagogy and looking to further their knowledge and depth of preparation for this career aught to consider having this as part of their personal library.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shameful omission of Walter Schenkman's other two chapters, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Creative Piano Teaching (Paperback)
I have long owned and loved the original 1977 Stipes Publication of this book, especially for the three remarkably insightful and beautifully written chapters by Walter Schenkman. His "Baroque and Classical: Into the Earth and Away From It," for example, captured essential truths about gravity and its effect on the proper projection of upbeats and downbeats. I had never seen this vital topic presented with such clarity and wit. In fact, I have rarely seen it dealt with at all.
Imagine my disappointment when I ordered this book for our piano students at Montclair State University, and found that two of Schenkman's three chapters have been discarded! The surviving chapter about Romantic Repertoire is marvelous, but now Schenkman's other two equally remarkable chapters are gone forever. My letter about this to the publishers went unanswered.
If anyone knows of plans to publish Schenkman's writings, I would like to be the first one on the mailing list!

This is a good book if you are just starting out creating your studio. I would not recommend this book to use to search for rep. Though not bad.
