I bought this book to get my feet wet with CS5 and it gave me what I needed. It got me started with all the different CS5 programs. There are four or five chapters covering each program: Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Indesign, Illustrator, Bridge, Fireworks.

It got me started but you should know that it doesn't cover every single feature in great detail. And the book is huge - twice the size of the classroom in a book, but this is not a reference. It's a guide to teach you how to use the software and to get you started. I have the Photoshop Digital Classroom and several chapters were taken from there so it looks like they've taken a bunch of chapters from the different Digital Classroom books and put them together here. If you want an introduction to the CS5 this is a good place to start. But if you want to know everything about every program you'll want to buy the books that cover each program separately.
I did need to go to the books website to download files for one of the lessons but it was fast to get them and easy to find.

I'd give this book a negative if it were possible.

Obviously this book was a cut and paste job from a CS4 issue. The problem is, outside of changing the CS4 to CS5, it reads as if little else was updated. For a beginner, this is a huge distraction, a recipe for frustration and most certainly a time waster. Why a huge distraction, why frustration and loss of time? Because the book constantly refers to material that is not even included in the CS5 Creative Suite manual, likewise pictures and text do not correlate at times(meaning: what the text says and what the accompanying picture illustrate do not jive), there are even files missing from the accompanying disc that you need for the self study portion of the exercises!(mastehead.fla file from the self-study flash lesson number 4 is missing. You'll also find confusing file additions for Dreamweaver that you do not need and are not referenced in the text) I had to purchase this book for a class, and I can only speak to the sections on Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver as I have yet to delve into any of the other material, yet I can only imagine the state of those other sections. If they are at all like the Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver lessons then you're in for disappointment and an overwhelming feeling that you've been ripped off.

In my honest opinion: if you are beginning to learn CS5, buy something else. This was slapped together with little attention to detail and you could buy something much better for your money.
