Great instuctional book. Fairly easy reading and the best Illustrations since The Ashley book of Knots. The only downside is the "Practical Projects" section. Fairly simple stuff.

Very Clear Explanations,

This review is from: Creative Ropecraft (Paperback)
I picked this book up, in hardcover, from a library sale. AT first I was not too impressed with it, until I began to dig further.
The chapter, MULTI STRAND KNOTS AND SPLICES finally helped me to understand Matthew Walker single and double knots. Very clearly taught. The next chapter, SINGLE STRAND FANCY KNOTS, made many different Turk's Head knots understandable. (What I mean by "understandable" is that not only should I be able to MAKE a knot, but I should be able to understand the concept that goes into it, in order to later be able to make it again by memory, by knowing the overall concept behind constructing it. The chapter that I learned the most from was PLAITS & SENNITS OF UP TO 6 STRANDS, where the author starts on easier weaves, and works the reader up to multiple different 6-strand sennits. The illustrations are so good that I could jump right into some of the more difficult ones and probably complete with very little struggle. THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE THAT GOOD! The projects at the back of the book are good, but too varied for my tastes: such as a LANYARD, a ROPE HAMMOCK and a ROPE TRAY (2 designs). They may appeal to some, but this book really excels in the explanation sections. Very much worth the small price I paid.

Rope a dope,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Creative Ropecraft (Paperback)
This is a excellent book and gives the beginner some pretty high goals to reach.
I wish there were a little more detail showing actual step by step action required for each level of completion. However a good imagination does help in the learning process. Maybe with time and practice this old dope may learn to get off the ropes. Wish me luck. I liked this book and recommend it to anyone who thinks they can't be creative. Or if you just like the "challenge" then this is the "test". Stanley Alves.

This is a great first book for those just starting to learn the art of knot tying or starting a reference library.
The illustrations and instructions are clear and instructive. I also found several of the projects quite useful.
