A Kid's Review
This review is from: Slam Dunk Typing (CD-ROM)
Great fun- and learning how to type at the same time. If you want to learn how to type, but not get bored at the same time, try using "slam dunk typing" we used it at computer class at school. When she said it was time to leave, nobody wanted to go because they were having such a a great time. I reccomend it for people ages6 and up, but anyone can really use it.

My son loves it!,

My 12 year old son loves this game. He "plays" it more like a game than as homework. It is very well made, the instructions are clear and thorough and he has spent more time with than we asked him to! Much better than the boring typing class I took in high school, this will get him typing correctly in a few weeks time and in a very enjoyable format. If you have a basketball lover this is definitely the game for them! It starts out w/ the typical letter sequences like j-h or f-r but instead of just typing it forever, the game is set up in a few different formats. In "passing" you type the letters that show and that passes the ball between players. In the "game" scenario you type the letters to pass the ball and then every now and again a small screen pops up w/ a three letter word that you have to type in order to shoot or defend the ball! very fun.

Why no WinXP upgrade???,

This review is from: Slam Dunk Typing (CD-ROM)
I have never seen a typing tutor program that kids go nuts for like Slam Dunk. It does a great job of actually feeling like a computer game, as opposed to many educational software items where the "game" aspect feels like an excuse to learn stuff. I've seen kids from third grade through seventh really love it. BUT...it does not work with WinXP!!!!! I don't know what Creative Wonders has not offered a new version, but I wish they would. Nevertheless, if you have a MAC or an older version of Windows, I heartily recommend this software.

I am 13 and this is awesome!! Fun to learn from. It helps you to discover problem keys, prompts you to work on them and is very, very fun to play. It feels like a game rather than a lesson.

Slam Dunk Typing is a fun way to learn how to type if you like basketball. You start on the beginers level by just shooting simple baskets and then work your way up to playing in a real basketball game. It's having fun and learning how to type at the same time. Have fun!

Typing motivation for sports fans!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Slam Dunk Typing (CD-ROM)
As a computer literacy teacher I have tried several learn-to-type programs in the classroom. This program was successful in getting some of the sports minded people to practice their typing with no complaining! It maintained their interest even in the typing of long paragraphs which highlighted interesting stories about great names in the history of basketball. As a teacher however, I found the recording of their progress not as comprhensive and accessible as other programs.

Running this software in OSX+Classic mode will result in occasional lagginess -- not a big deal until you're a speed typist. My kids (ages 5 and 8) love this game, and it has really improved their touch typing skills. It's also a favorite at school.

Still trying to use this on Vista,
This review is from: Slam Dunk Typing (CD-ROM)
We just bought a new computer which came loaded with Vista (not the one I would have chosen form myself, but oh well). It has a feature that allows it to run older programs on it, but I can't get that to work until I get a glitch fixed that seems to be linked to outlook express.
I haven't given up on Slam Dunk yet. Has anyone had success using it with Vista? P.S. I gave it two stars because I had to put in some number. I'll update this review if/when I get the program to work |
