4.0 out of 5 stars Add Excitement to Art
I bought this for my 11 YO niece for Christmas. The kit has a small, posable wooden mannequin, lots of pencils, a decent amount of various papers and lots of good techniques for drawing.

This kit definitately encourages kids to experiment. There are techniques for motion and still drawings. My niece is slightly ADHD and has a difficult time reading for long and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Mannequin cannot be posed in many positions and breaks easily
I got this for my art-obsessed daughter. She was delighted with the idea of being able to position the mannequin and then draw the pose. However, the mannequin is not very flexible and can't be put in many positions that humans and other mannequins can. For example, this mannequin cannot sit or stand realistically. While she was trying to get the mannequin posed, he...

I bought this for my 11 YO niece for Christmas. The kit has a small, posable wooden mannequin, lots of pencils, a decent amount of various papers and lots of good techniques for drawing.

This kit definitately encourages kids to experiment. There are techniques for motion and still drawings. My niece is slightly ADHD and has a difficult time reading for long and following instructions. This set was good for her because she could read a little and then experiment a lot. Even though she didn't study the book like a lot of kids would have, she did pick up a few new things and had a lot of fun with it.

I was expecting the mannequin to be a little larger, it seemed small to me, but she thought it was great.

This is a fun kit for any budding artist.

I got this for my art-obsessed daughter. She was delighted with the idea of being able to position the mannequin and then draw the pose. However, the mannequin is not very flexible and can't be put in many positions that humans and other mannequins can. For example, this mannequin cannot sit or stand realistically. While she was trying to get the mannequin posed, he broke. My daughter is a quiet, careful, bookish kid. I can count on one hand the number of things she's broken in her life. She had had him for three days. I couldn't believe it.

I was out later and spotted a new kind of Barbie, Barbie "Fashionista" which unlike most Barbies has realistic, flexible joints (knees, elbows, wrists and ankles, as well as ball and socket shoulders and hips). They can be put in extremely realistic poses with ease, and look much more realistic than this cheap mannequin. My daughter has loved posing her and has produced terrific drawings using her as a "model." Seven months later, the Fashionista Barbie is still intact and providing artistic inspiration and, when she is not posing, is also useful for imaginative play.

If you're looking primarily for a mannequin for a girl, skip Drawing Power and get Barbie Fashionistas Girly Doll which is higher quality at a lower price

This is a pretty neat little gift for any young kid that really likes to draw. There's a lot included for the price so that to a small kid, it makes them feel like you got them a canvas and drawing table to become the next Picasso.
