4.0 out of 5 stars Creates an enjoyable product
Beeswax is a wonderful craft item. It is long burning, smokeless, and has a gentle, natural fragrance. This kit will only provide enough wax for one large candle or a very few small ones. Personally, I prefer the large candle as it lasts longer. The instructions are clearly written and allow plenty of room for a kids creativity to caome out. As for the information...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beeswax Candle Kit
I purchased this for my daughter as well as my niece. It was a total waste of money. The wax was difficult to use and most of it cracked. As an adult, it was difficult to work with the wax. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

As for the information about bees, there is a sheet of basic facts and 4 recipes. Frankly, if your goal is to learn about bees, a better investment would be an age appropriate book. This would make a good gift paired with a book like The Magic Schoolbus Inside a Beehive or an insect identification guide.

I bought this for my 6-yr old boy's birthday. After a few minutes of my explaining the basic concept (wrap the wax around the wick) he quickly made several really neat candles. I have two other boys, 7-1/2 & 9, who loved it, and I'm planning to buy more. They all had so many ideas of how to make the candles--combines art with fire -- great combination! The candles burn clean and have a pleasant smell.

However, I'd love to find a cheaper source of colored beeswax. I can see this being a continuous source of enjoyment, and a great Bday present for other kids.

I don't recall learning much about bees from this kit, but I didn't read the couple of scraps of paper very thoroughly.

I always thought that you should buy candles until I got this wonderful gift. I'm so glad that I got this. I opened it right away, and found out that it was the greatest candle I've ever seen once I made one. I only had enough wax to make five more by the end of the day because I loved it so much. I finished it off the next day, and was thinking about getting another set.

While I didn't get one for myself, I did give one to a dear aunt and her family and one to a dear friend in CA and they both love them. I have made my own beeswax candles and should buy one for myself. My friend liked learning about the bees and my Aunt Beverly said that they burned nicely.

5.0 out of 5 stars super, July 14, 2006

Looking at the other reviews, the only thing I can recommend is that if the kit has been sitting around and is hardened, you might want to warm it just a bit to make the wax plyable. Hardened, cold wax is going to break if you bend it. Beeswax is more plyable than others, BUT . . like I said, warming stiff wax will make it flexible . . but do not melt it.

This stuff is great.

A great project for kids--especially if studying colonial history to get an idea what candles were made from and how beeswax burned
