Jane Singhal holds a BA in music from Yale and an MA in Russian Studies from Princeton. A violinist, vocalist, and music instructor, Ms. Singhal is the author of "Applause," a violin method and repertoire series, and "Move Over Mozart" an elementary school curriculum, as well as articles on skills-based music instruction.

This book presents sophisticated musical concepts in terms that a child can understand. The companion CD shows the impact of these concepts by playing simple tunes with sound effects. The illustrations are lively and charming.

The book is well thought out to appeal to the child and, at the same time, to provide an awareness of the elements that make music come to life. The illustrations are clever and apppealing. The CD is the best part of all. You can't teach about music without some sound illustration and this CD illustration is,in a word, wonderful.
