2.0 out of 5 stars narrative is awkward, August 16, 2009
This review is from: The Creek (First Books--Indians of the Americas) (Paperback)
I checked this book out of the library to use in our home school program with my two 7 year old girls. My girls were unable to read it on their own because the narrative is so poorly written, sentences are comma loaded and sentence style seems forced and pretentious. I read it to them and even with inflection found the writing to be unclear. A children's book editor should have inisted that the writing style be more direct, afterall this is a "American Indian First Books" which implies primary use. The illustrations are also weak, because only primary source materail is shown. I understand the value of primary sources, but an illustration of the housing would have helped.
