5.0 out of 5 stars First Book about Low Dose Naltrexone, June 4, 2005
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
I appeciate the fact that Mary Boyle Bradley took
the time to write this book about a treatment for
MS and other autoimmune disorders. This treatment
is largely heard about over the internet and is only
FDA approved at higher doses, 50 mag., for opiate addicts.
Dr. Bihari discovered that at lower doses it can be used to treat MS, Parkinson's, Crohn's, and other disorders. The reason why the USA has not pursued this treatment is it is not a profitable one. Mrs. Bradley's husband was rapidly progressing with his MS and switched from Avonex to LDN, and has done much better with LDN.

I encourage you to read this and you will get an understanding of how backward the medical community and NMSS really are. Mary is trying to get a large scale trial for LDN and MS in Ireland, as well as, LDN and AIDS in South Africa. Here, she would like the help of Oprah Winfrey, because LDN could save millions of lives very cheaply. Thank you Mary for all your efforts! And thank you Dr. Bihari, the man who who gave us LDN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, engaging, and timely story of overcoming auto-immune illness, December 5, 2005

This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
Mary Bradley tells her engaging story of discovering the drug low dose naltrexone (LDN). LDN can arrest the progression of autoimmune diseases and unlike other pharmaceutical options, is inexpensive, orally administered and almost free of adverse side-effects. Reading of the impact that this drug had on Mary's family, I understand her profound motivation to 'spread the word'. Besides being well written and enjoyable, this book lit a fire in me and I have shared the book with many family and friends.

As a person diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, it is refreshing and inspiring to read about treatments that work. After 6 months using the drug, LDN, I agree with Mary that this is a drug with wonderful potential and which all people who deal with auto-immune related illnesses should know about and consider using. Thank you Mary

The information in this book continues to be relevant and appreciated by myself and my friends. I ascribe credit to LDN for halting MS for me for 3 years now. (August 2008)

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Anne Bradley is an Angel, January 29, 2007
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
I was recently diagnosed with MS this past June and through an incredibly fortunate turn of events,my In-Laws suggested I read Mary Anne's book...which I did. It is so well written, chock full of imperitive information that I was not receiving through the medical community, provided much insight into this desease, and at times humorous and touched me in an amazing way. Yet, I was even more touched to again have the incredible good fortune to actually meet Mary Anne and her husband Noel in person in July. To say that she and her family have been thoroughly instimental while I'm on this journey is an understatement.'Up the Creek with a Paddle' is an absolute must-read for anyone grappling with a life-altering disease, whether the person directly affected or the caregivers/family/friends. LDN has provided me with such massive help and hope and had it not been for Mary Anne Bradley, I would never have known about LDN's existance. To read this book and learn of LDN will turn your life around, to have met Mary Anne and Noel Bradley restores your faith in true Earth-bound Angels! Thanks for them both and thanks for 'Up the Creek with a Paddle' will never be enough. Mary Anne is a true pioneer and has the fortitude and tenacity that is seemingly lacking in the medical community on a whole. Her book should be a must-read for anyone going through very difficult medical challenges...not exclusive to MS. Thank you so very, very much for everything, Mary Anne!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended!, November 5, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
LDN is a treatment for MS (and other autoimmune diseases) that MUST be taken seriously by the medical and research communities. Mary Bradley gives an easy to read personal account of her LDN journey on behalf of her husband who has MS. She is articulate, informed, and shares a wonderful sense of humor. Clearly she did her homework before pushing her husband to try LDN and readers can benefit from the work she did. Her ongoing efforts to get clinical trials for the use of LDN in the treatment of MS and other diseases demonstrates her compassion and dedication to others who are dealing with these conditions.

One of the most important contributions Ms. Bradley makes is the hope she gives to those suffering from MS and those of us who love them. In fact, my sister emailed her about her daughter/my niece (diagnosed with MS in 9/05)and Mary Bradley CALLED her back! She was full of hope and encouragement which meant so much to my family. Read this book! It is full of valuable information and the author really cares!

This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
This book has brought so much light to my life. The idea, the hope, the honesty means more than words can say. For Mary Bradley to open her heart like this is unbelievable. As someone with MS, I hope that many people can get the hope and encouragement they need from this book to realize the opportunities out there for them....

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and certainly life affirming...., June 15, 2005

I would recommend that everyone with an auto immune disorder read this book. It is a story that I can affirm because I have met Mary Bradley and her husband Noel. I am living that story today and even though many people don't like to use the word miracle, LDN is surely a modern day miracle. This book is written in the manner of a true Irish story teller. Mary has that true Irish charm to her and this books reflects her manner of conversation. The story is told in the most charming way. I really hope that she succeeds in getting Oprah's attention because LDN is what could surely change the world if only it gets the recognition it deserves. I think this book is one step towards that goal. Thanks Mary and blessings to you and Noel. JoyceF

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have MS or any autoimmune disease...READ THIS BOOK!, October 10, 2007
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
I was diagnosed with MS in July 05 at 29. In Jan of 06 I ended up paralyzed from the waist down due to an severe exacerbation. I was not on any of the C.R.A.B. drugs at the time, but was using holistic remedies that I had read about. After getting out of the hospital I went on Copaxone. While it seemed to help, I was not thrilled about taking a shot everyday nor the $3000 a month cost of the medication. I was relentless when it came to looking for other therapies. I stumbled on this book by just searching for literature on MS here on Amazon. The book looked unassuming, but the title was too intriquing to pass up. I bought the book and read the entire thing the day I received it. WOW! I was so excited! I was having difficulty finding a Dr. to prescribe LDN as most seem to follow the standard protocol to avoid lawsuits or because of pressure from drug companies. I emailed Mary and she emailed me back and within a week I found my current doctor and have not looked back. I have been on LDN since mid April and am so thankful! My muscle spasms have decreased so much I don't have to take any other meds for them. My bladder dysfunction still persists, but is so much improved that I only take half the dosage of those pills now. And, it is SOO nice only taking a pill at night before bed than giving yourself injections everyday. Finally, the cost!! I spend $30 a month for my LDN. My costs have been cut 100 fold. If you have MS or any autoimmune disease I would encourage you to read this book. Everyone (NMSS in particular) keeps touting that an oral medication is just around the corner....IT'S ALREADY HERE AND AVAILABLE!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars God sends us people like Mary!, June 25, 2006
By
Mia DV (Scranton, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
Reading Mary's book is like having a cup of coffee in a good friend's kitchen. You can't put it down. I've always been optimistic that we are very close to solving autoimmune diseases- so much so, that one of my specialists feels that I may be in denial, and keeps reminding me there IS NO CURE! But, like Mary, I am cautiously optimistic, and refuse to just lie down and let this disease envelope me. LDN offers hope for those of us who are looking for a tool to help us fight our diseases, and take back our quality of life.

Some would call Mary persistent. I would call her relentless. She does not jack-hammer her way through solid rock, but because she perseveres for all those she loves, she is most assuredly beating a path through that solid rock! When that final barrier comes down, we who suffer, and wish, and wait, will finally enjoy the rewards she is earning for us. That day is close.

Thank you, Mary. You don't even know me, and many thousands of others like me world wide, yet you are looking out for us because we are somebody's Noel, somebody's child, somebody's sister/brother, somebody's mother/father. God indeed works through you. Bless you and yours. Love, Mia DV- Scranton PA. JohnnieBravosMom@adelphia.net

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have MS this book is for you!, August 19, 2006
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
It is a well writen book detailing how hard it is to get movement
within the medical world, to approve a drug that is better than anything on the market,is generic, and is not expensive.

The medical world will not press for a medical trial, which is
quite expensive, since it will not benifit the drug companys.

LDN is the real thing. READ THE BOOK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up the Creek Second Edition Available January 2009, January 1, 2009
This review is from: Up the Creek with a Paddle: Beat MS and Many Autoimmune Disorders with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) (Paperback)
I am the author of Up the Creek with a Paddle and would like to thank all of the readers here for the beautiful reviews. I took Up the Creek off the market in November 2008 because Publish America increased the price to $24.95 and I don't want people to have to pay that much for the story. I used the opportunity to update the book and the new edition will be out in January 2009. I am happy to report that Noel continues to thrive.
Wishing you all a very healthy and happy 2009
