From School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-In this audio version of British author Alan Durant's book, cousin Oliver is going to visit his vampire relatives at Creepe Hall. When he arrives, he finds some unwelcome house guests and must come up with a clever and "sporting" way to get them to leave. Read by British actress Ann Beach, the story moves quickly and logically, and maintains a great deal of humor throughout. Beach gives each of the characters a distinctive voice, adding dimension to the presentation. The aural quality is enhanced by appropriately and sparingly used music and other non-intrusive special effect sounds. Best suited for individual listening, this fun story will be enjoyed by elementary school students. Its short length makes it useful with reluctant readers as well. For school and public library collections.

Join Ann Beach for a fun time at Creepe Hall. She narrates a huge range of creepy characters with great names, such as Mummy (the cook); the twins, Can and Con; and Werebadger, a new clone! When visitors take over Creepe Hall, it's time for the inhabitants to move them along. The best way to do it is to challenge the men to sports competitions. Beach's splendid voice enhances the text of a story that seems to have been written to be read aloud,. She gives each "gloomy" just the right mix of menace and humor.
