You are completely wasting your time reading this if you have not yet clicked "Add to Cart".

I'll wait.
Done? Good.
Now let me tell you what an absolute thrill you are in for!
Some of the artwork found in those Warren Magazines of the sixties and seventies, is among the greatest ever produced for the comic medium. The names are legendary; we know them all.
Some of the best artwork done during that heady time was by a guy named Berni Wrightson, who subsequently put the "e" back on his first name.
Mr. Wrightson is one of our greatest living comic artists, and some of HIS best work was seen in these pages.
So...take EVERYTHING he did for Warren, in a ridiculously affordable but lovingly produced package...and you have one of the archival collections of the year.
You will sit goggle-eyed and astonished at the brushwork here, beautifully reproduced on thick stock.
Stories I can remember as if I read them yesterday are here. "The Black Cat", "Jenifer", "The Pepper Lake Monster", "Nightfall", "Cool Air"...and to have "The Muck Monster" in brilliant, lurid color is a treat in and of itself.
The exquisite frontispieces from Creepy and Eerie are all here too.
There are a few surprises here as well; the context of which are illuminated by a heart-tugging introduction by Bruce Jones. Definitely read it before you start. It's well worth your time.
For fans of Creepy and Eerie, this is a must-buy. I guarantee you'll be completely satisfied.

I first came to these stories after both Creepy and Eerie had been canceled for a few years, and Bruce Jones and Pacific Comics were really the only ones carrying the torch for 70s-style horror comics into the 80s, which was FINE BY ME. Having missed those glory days by a few years, I treasured in particular a series of colorized reprints of Mr. Wrightson's work entitled "Bernie Wrightson: Master of the Macabre." This fine book will cost you less than buying all of those issues today, and the reproduction of his art is much, much better here as well. Wrightson's imagination is ghoulish, humorous, passionate, and raised the art of horror storytelling to then-new heights. One of the best examples is the Jones/Wrightson classic "Jenifer": a fiendishly memorable look into sex, murder and obsession, recently filmed by horror maestro Dario Argento for the "Masters Of Horror" TV series. Even if you're already planning to buy every Creepy and Eerie Archive volume, this smaller book is worth the investment, as much love was lavished on every page. And it's a bargain, too.

Dark Horses's collected editions of classic horror comics continues with this edition of Creepy classics. Bernie Wrightson, best known for co-creating Swamp Thing with Len Wein, is one of the most prolific artists/personalities in comic books in the past five decades, and this collection wonderfully displays why that is. Featuring tales including Poe's "The Black Cat", "The Muck Monster" (in color!), and "Jenifer"; the last story of which was turned into a Masters of Horror episode during its inaugural season. Wrightson's lush artwork is wonderfully remastered, and the stories themselves still manage to pack a visceral punch even today. All in all, this deluxe hardcover is gorgeously put together and deserves to have a place in your collection.

For the first time ever we get all of Berni Wrightson's work for Warren in one book. And the work he did for Warren was the best he ever did, so this book is a must buy. Collected here are the stories he adapted from the Classics of Horror: Edgar A. Poe's "The Black Cat" (another Poe adaption was to be "The Tell-Tale Heart", which Wrightson never got to finish), and H. P. Lovecraft's "Cool Air", both being perhaps the best graphic adaptions of those two stories ever. Also included, of course, are such Wrightson classics as "Jenifer", which was adapted by Dario Argento (himself a fan of Wrightson) for the Masters of Horror TV series, and what many consider Bernie's best work ever, "The Muck Monster" (though we get the Warren "colorized" version here; this story looks much better in b&w; see the book "A look back" for a comparison), which is nothing but a prelude to his work on Frankenstein. We also get every other piece of artwork he did for both Creepy and Eerie, be it drawings for the frontispiece and/or covers. The printing is crisp and detailed and it's all bound in hardback, so what is there not to like?

However, I don't see the real purpose of this book. For those buying the Creepy and Eerie archives, we will see all this in future volumes... I really don't understand why this book even exists, unless it's something Dark Horse aims to do; sell us books by different artists that collaborated with Warren. If so, it'd be great to see future books on Corben (the version done by Heavy Metal some years back came out blurry and seemed to be out of focus; plus it didn't include all of Corben's work for Warren), John Severin, Russ Heath, Wally Wood, etc.
