5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting every time I hear it, October 30, 2001

This review is from: Cremaster 5 (1997 Film) (Audio CD)
I have to admit that I nodded off during the screening of this film. Still the music stuck with me and when I heard it in the store, I was interested to hear more.

The sound, to my ears, is much like Benjamin Britten (children's choir writing in War Requeim) and Alex North (harp writing in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?) combined. The work seems about half instrumental and half with voices. The vocals are unique: children's voices and a soprano (portraying an aging woman, so her voice sounds mature and even a little unsteady, an effect I find interesting).

The work sounds somewhat melancholy one the whole, with 2 cuts providing some faster rhythms. Mostly I just enjoy hearing the harmonies (mostly minor keys)and the way the orchestra and vocals explore the pensive and often funereal mood.

Interesting packaging with good stills from the film, too.
