When Jamey is kidnapped by a mysterious guy who seems bent on killing him, he unknowingly releases another from a stone. While trying to escape the guy a second time, he meets a dragon who tells him that he is a Rainbow - a defender of light and color.
Through further mishaps, a battle, and help along the way, he finds himself ten years older, with powers he doesn't understand, and in an alternate universe. The man he saved from the stone explains to Jamey that the man who kidnapped him was the Dark Master who is bent on the destruction of all color. He requests Jamey and some other warriors' help in uncovering the eight pearls, the only way to defeat the Dark Master before he attacks the heart of color in six months. Now, Jamey must trust his life in the hands of strangers as he and his newfound companions face perils beyond their imagination, minions of the Dark Master, and evil worse than anything anyone has ever known- all in order to save his world as well as a world he barely knows. Will Jamey learn to use his powers in time? Will he and the other warriors find the eight pearls before the Dark Master destroys everything? Although there were parts of this story that were confusing and made the book hard to follow in places, this fast-paced adventure was well worth the read. The dragons in it are entertaining and a highlight of the book. The good characters are easy to love. The battles of good vs. evil are also unique and gripping. Readers who like dragons, fantasy, science fiction, action, and adventure will all enjoy reading CREN AND THE WAR OF SEVEN DAYS. Reviewed by: Kira M

An original fantasy that takes its concept and executes it beautifully,

Color can be more than just description. "Cren and the War of the Seven Days" follows Jamey as he learns this fact when he finds himself in an alternate universe. He learns the value of color, and that color may be the only thing to stand against the darkness. The Darkers seek to destroy color and everything alongside it, but Jamey's adventures may just give him what he needs to be able to stop them. "Cren and the War of the Seven Days" is an original fantasy that takes its concept and executes it beautifully.

This book was just plain greatness. I loved the story-line, the mysteries, and the captivating ideas. This young author has exceptional writing thoughts. The overall idea of an alternate universe based on color is awesome. The minute my children started reading it they didn't want to stop. I also have to admit, I even liked the book being an adult. This fantasy makes you dream of a world so interesting that you will not forget it. It is a great book for kids.

This was undoubtly the most I have ever seen my daughter captivated by a book. She would'nt put it down till she was done with it! The creativity in the storyline kept the kids in a world with multiple adventures and even kept me glued to the pages. It's exactly the kind of science fiction my kids love to read. This young author has done a superb job with fostering imagination in young minds and we certainly hope he will continue to write more as we are looking forward to a sequel.

BOOORING,
By English Teacher "book fanatic" (Pleasanton, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cren and the War of Seven Days (Paperback)
Unfortunately this young writer has a long long way to go for a best seller! The story line just hangs and hangs, he introduces lots of characters, but does not develop them nor does he ever really build the suspense.
Very Boring. There are also a least two typos within the first 100 pages. I gave up reading it after that. Maybe I'll pick it up again when I am in need of sleep.

Good Idea, Bad Results,
By
This review is from: Cren and the War of Seven Days (Paperback)
The idea for this book is interesting, an alternate universe of colored empires, dragons, and mages. The actual results were not what I expected. His writing style is simplistic and lacks a thorough plot. Yes, he uses his creativity to create new creatures and ideas, though they just seem like copy-cats of Harry Potter and particularly Twighlight.
Honeslty, I cannot tell who this book was written for. Kids might find the content interesting with fantasy dragons, space, and color, but for the mature reader, its all been done before. It doesn't have the in depth character development a classic like Harry Potter does and would not be appreciated by intelligent people. Pros: Quirky Ideas Nice Cover Art Cons: It feels too long and should have been half as long. Lack of character development. Simplistic Style. Feels too much like Harry Pooter/Twighlight. Plot gets confusing with alternate universe and various color empires. Overall, I feel like he had something going here, but it lacks the "meat" a best seller has. Hopefully any sequels will have better character development and have a more defined audience. Good Try |
