A Classic Romance!,
By
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
"Creole Fires" is a classic Martin romance. This read offers it all for the fan of historical romance fiction.
Alex Du Villier has returned to Louisiana after being abroad in France for several years. Before his departure for France, he rescued a young lady of good breeding from certain harm. He walks away from her but she never leaves his mind. Three years later he returns to New Orleans and is on his way to a meeting with friends when he is compelled to enter an auction for indentured servants. He can't explain it but he purchases a slight young girl with the eyes the color of the girl he'd saved. He has no idea that both girls are one and the same, and that he has unwittingly taken a step towards his future. But will he allow his heart to release the one thing that brings him joy in order secure the families sugar plantation with a marriage that will be no more then a business arrangement? Nicole has lost all. Her father and mother are dead and she is now not a gently breed young lady...she is now a bond servant. When she is put on the auction block she has no idea who the handsome man is that has purchased her...until she comes face to face with her hero from her childhood. He has no idea who she is and accepts the fact that she is no more then she appears. A thief and servant. But, his gentle nature and attention speaks to Nicki and she begins to wish for that which she can't have...that is until his grandmother returns from France and recognizes who Nicki is. Will Alex and Nicki be able to put their feelings aside for a fortune, or will love be stronger then either of them ever realized it could be? This is one of my favorite romances by Ms. Martin. She has taken great care in building the relationship between her two main characters and as a result the reader will be drawn into the drama and firmly entertained until the final page. This is one romance I highly recommend!

Romance, Suspense, Great Emotions - It's All Here!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
Once again, Kat Martin has gone to the heart of romance. Through detailed character emotional descriptions, the reader becomes involved in the lives of Alexander and Nicole, and their struggles against and then toward each other. Nicole is a wonderful character brought through innocence to wisdom, and Alexander is the tender, yet strong hero, ever responsible for those around him, to the point of exchanging his own happiness for others'. I love this book, and author! Kat Martin brings the reader right into the time period - I was lost in history, and the lives of the two characters. Anyone who likes historical romances, especially the French or Creole culture, should definitely read this novel!

READ IT AND FALL IN LOVE!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVED AND I STILL LOVE THIS BOOK! NICOLE IS SO WONDERFUL AS THE STUBBORN, BUT LOVABLE HEROINE. ALEX IS THE STRONG, SILENT TYPE WITH A BIG HEART. THE STORY CONTAINS SO MANY THEMES THAT IT DOESN'T GET BORING NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I READ IT. I STILL OWN A COPY AND IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME! A BIG SALUTE TO THE WOMAN OF THE ROMANCE HOUR, KAT MARTIN!

Awsome Read,
By Tcat09 (Boston, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creole Fires (Paperback)
This book was wonderfully written. I loved the characters Alex and Nicole. Alex is such a great guy in this book. The passion between the two is so great I couldn't wait for the next thing to happen. The only time I got irritated was when Nicole kept running away thinking she should find love somewhere else,(only because Alex had to marry someone else and she didn't want to be his mistress). I was thinking to myself "girl, give it up!" She already caused herself much trouble the last two times she left him because of her damn pride and every time-- she comes close to getting either robbed, raped, or killed. I also enjoyed the part where Alex and Nicole met a few years ago by accident, and since he has never forgotten her looks, he sees her being octioned off as a servant. But he only notices the beauty of his rememberance of her (not knowing it was the same girl) and buys her anyway against a mean, cruel man in which Alex had to beat. Then the story goes on. This book was definately a page turner. I'm glad I bought the book. I've read a lot of Kat Martin books, and this is just one of the stories that I can clearly remember because I enjoyed it so much. It is worth reading! ;)

THE BEST HISTORICAL ROMANCE EVER WRITTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By Rogue2k@Worldnet.att.net (Southern USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
What else can I say other than... WOW! I have read this book 20 times and it gets better all the time. I love the main character Nicole, I can truely identify with her, I thought Kat was writting about me. The Creole/ New Orleans setting was the best. I have searched for books like this and have found NONE. If any one knows of any other great historical southern creole romance novels email me. The characters were so in depth and the details so graphic, I felt as if I were there. Every page produces vivid mental images. I recommend this book to every one I know and they all love it!!!!!

EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT!! You gotta read it!!,

This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't rate a book five stars very often but this one is worth it. The plot had a lot of depth that many other romance novels lack. The story jerked you in from page one and didn't let you go til the end. The secondary characters were abundant and wonderfully interesting. Kat Martin KNOWS how to tell a story. If you can get your hands on this book - you gotta read it!

and boy did my husband reap the benefits when we landed!! I had read romance novels in my late teens/early twenties, which was more years ago than I'll admit to, but grew tired of the selection available and switched to other types of books. Fast forward several years later following marriage and 3 kids, and I knew I needed help to get in the appropriate mindset for a second honeymoon, so this is the one I happened upon, not realizing that it would be just what the doctor ordered!! I have now rediscovered romance novels and enjoy them regularly, but must admit that they've changed over the years! This book is definitely a keeper and one I've reread several times. I'm a definite fan of Kat Martin and have read many of her books.

A nice book for a rainy Sunday,
By Lil Claire "Clairest" (Barbados) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked this book. It had all the elements of a cozy good ole fashioned love story. I read the entire thing on a lazy rainy Sunday and it made for a wonderful weekend. The plot is engaging but not so impenetrable that it made you nervous. The 'running-away from problems' sub-plot gets a bit repetitive by the end, but all in all I was satisfied.

Martin can do better,
By janlouise (Ruston, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creole Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
First, let me say Kat Martin is a favorite author of mine. Second, let me say "Kat, you have gotten better with time." You can definitely tell this is an 'older' Martin book. And though I was torn with the rating - between 2 & 3 I went with 2. And though it might be better than a 2, it is DEFINITELY not a 5 or even a 4. Martin definitely has better out there! I have to agree with the other reviewer talking about the slave/non-slave and marriage/non-marriage issues. And Nicki's constantly planning to run away was so silly- that got old, too. The whole thing got old. I did finish the book and it's not a bad book, just boring. It is actually a good story and being a Louisianian myself (not cajun or creole) I was excited about the theme. I did a lot of page glancing to get through it. So if you like mild romance reading then this would be a good one for you.

On the fence.,
By lledrok (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews

I can't decide if I really loved this book or if it irritated that heck out of me. Yes, It's a cliched formula, slave/lover/hostage thing but at the same time the plot had depth, to a degree. As I said, I'm on the fence with this one. I always ask myself if would I read this book again, would I bother, and the answer this time is...yes.
