5.0 out of 5 stars I sure miss New Orleans, May 5, 2009
This review is from: Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook (Paperback)
This book brings it all together for me. Having been a part of the Crescent City Farmers Market, in a variety of ways, since 2000 I was reminded of all that has happened with every page I turned of this amazing collection of photos, recipes and Poppy Tooker's reflections. The friendly faces and amazing people who found their way to the markets each week are forever captured with this "more-than-a-cookbook". I look forward to cooking with it, looking through it and being reminded of how important the CCFM has been for New Orleans and her future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like being there, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook (Paperback)
Poppy Tooker makes New Orleans beloved Crescent City Farmers Market come alive. The compelling and provoking stories of the markets farmers, fishers and producers combined with the recipes of some of New Orleans (and the worlds) most acclaimed chefs combines in a cultural expression unlike any other. From the most classic of Creole dishes to the more expressive culinary creations, one could get the flavor of New Orleans from just reading let alone cooking from this book. Tooker is obviously passionate about her city, subjects, the market, and the foods of the most distinct products and cuisine our country and maybe the universe has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crescent City Rave, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook (Paperback)
Having had the good fortune to shop the Crescent City Farmers Market during a trip to New Orleans, I was impressed by the strong sense of community that radiated from both the farmers and the shoppers. Thanks to dedicated Crescent City Farmers Market volunteers, who helped this city institution to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Hurricane Katrina, the market revived and restored a piece of New Orleans' soul. As you read the individual stories of farms and families, you realize the bond between humans is stronger than any storm, and that their recipes are a healing balm and the shining promise of renewal. Even better, each recipe I've tried is doggone good.

A big cheer for Poppy Tooker, who pulled it all together.

5.0 out of 5 stars What New Orleans food is all about, April 2, 2009
This review is from: Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook (Paperback)
Great insight into what makes New Orleans food the greatly loved and widely appreciated commodity that it is. The book charts the substantial effort expended to insure that future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy this unique cuisine. The well selected recipes are a strong closing argument to the thesis of the book.

This book contains an exhaustive collection of classic and modern New Orleans recipes by the people who grow, raise, catch and love fresh food. Where else can you learn how to cook shrimp and catfish from the people who catch them? The pictures are beautiful and make your mouth water!
This was obviously put together by someone(Poppy Tooker)who loves New Orleans, understands its history and wants to share it with the world!
