Frequently Asked Questions
Still unsure about Crest 3D White Whitestrips? Get your questions answered.
I have teeth sensitive to whitening. Can using Whitestrips make it worse?
If you already have teeth sensitive to whitening, but still want to use Whitestrips, Gentle Routine Whitestrips offer less whitening-related sensitivity.
Some people may temporarily experience a small amount of tooth sensitivity when using whitening products, which is completely normal, but know that Whitestrips are absolutely enamel safe.
How are whitening treatments different than whitening toothpastes? Do I really have to bother with two forms of whitening?
Tooth stains can fall in two general categories: extrinsic stains and intrinsic stains. Extrinsic stains are stains at the tooth’s surface. Intrinsic stains are stains beneath the tooth’s surface. Although most whitening toothpastes are a great way to remove stains on a daily basis, most only work on the surface to provide an extrinsic benefit to your smile.
Whitestrips, on the other hand, work both on surface stains as well as beneath the surface of the enamel. Going beyond where most whitening toothpastes leave off, Whitestrips whiten beneath the enamel surface for an overall whiter smile. Because of the extrinsic and intrinsic value of Whitestrips, you’ll see results that are noticeable.
Once I get a whiter smile, what is the best way to protect my new look?
Once you’ve achieved the whitening results you want, one way to maintain your whiter smile and protect against everyday stain buildup is using Crest 3D White 5 Minute Touch-Ups. Crest 3D White 5 Minute Touch-Ups are a quick, simple way to maintain your whiter smile.
Another way to maintain your whiter smile is to use the collection of Crest 3D White products, which include toothbrushes, toothpastes and rinses. When used daily, the collection of Crest 3D White products will keep your smile whiter and brighter, guaranteed.
What's the difference between Whitestrips and in-office, professional treatments?
There are two main differences between most in-office whitening treatments and Crest Whitestrips: 1) How the whitening ingredient is applied, and 2) Cost. Both whitening methods use the same whitening ingredient: hydrogen peroxide. However, Intensive Professional Effects Whitestrips use a 10% concentration, while most in-office procedures use up to a 35% concentration. Lights and lasers are also used during in-office procedures to help show results more quickly than at-home procedures.
However, because of this immediacy in results, in-office treatments cost more than Whitestrips. So, if speed is a priority for you, but cost is an issue, then try Intensive Professional Effects Whitestrips. They deliver professional-level results in the convenience of your home.
If the concentration of hydrogen peroxide is lower than in-office procedures, then do Whitestrips really work?
Absolutely. In fact, Crest 3D White Intensive Professional Effects and Professional Effects Whitestrips have enough whitening ingredient concentration to provide professional-level results.
How can I be sure which Whitestrips are right for me?
Whitestrips offer seven treatments, each tailored to different needs. The difference in each treatment is in the level of whitening and duration of wear time. For visible results that require only 30 minutes daily, there are three great options: Crest 3D White Vivid, Advanced Vivid and Professional Effects.
What if I want faster whitening? Is there anything that I can use to start seeing results immediately?
For whiter results in less time, try Crest 3D White Intensive Professional Effects. Offering whiter results as effective as a professional treatment, Intensive Professional Effects will give your smile Crest’s highest level of whitening in just one week — perfect for an upcoming occasion.

My only complaint is that there's gummy residue remaining on your teeth after removing the strips. I had to pick / wipe it off for a few minutes.
I was happy with the strips. Sure they were supposed to be used over a few months, but I had more immediate needs. I have slightly sensitive teeth, and these did not bother me at all. The strips are a little strange feeling, but they did not effect my speech. There was a Peroxide taste after a few minutes. I had to hold off on eating and drinking for a couple of hours though...
I give 'em a thumbs up!
Application is painless. It doesn't even suggest brushing your teeth first (in fact it recommends that you don't brush your teeth immediately before application). The whitening strips has a relatively thick layer of gel, and the substrate film material is very pliable yet durable. Its purpose is trying to simulate a dental office treatment, where your teeth will be immersed in a tray of (highly concentrated) peroxide gel/mud. It stuck to my teeth with little effort and dexterity. Within minutes, my teeth was engulfed in a bubbly peroxide bath.
Having this on feels a bit strange in the mouth, and I talked like I had a big tongue, but I tried to carry on as normal. It stuck to the teeth very well, despite my biting right over the strips and licking them. The bubbly area also largely stayed put, and little disturbed by saliva and movement of the lips and tongue. Bubbly substance does seep out in the form of thick gooey film(or it's just a mixture of saliva and gel substrate). My teeth felt the effects: I wouldn't call it discomfort, but after 5 minutes I started feeling something is happening to my teeth, though it's very slight (and probably depends on people's sensitivities).
Taking it off after two hours was easy: just rip it off.Read more ›
I read the negative reviews and thought, nah, that won't happen to me. I was so wrong. SO SO wrong. My pain began immediately after removing the strips with a dull ache that turned into a throbbing pain, and then morphed slowly into the level of torture that I am currently experiencing. You know those horror movies where people pull out their own teeth? That's run across my mind as an option.
I tried these steps to get the pain to subside:
--The first thing that I did was to really examine my pain level on a scale. On a scale of of "nah, I'm good" to "I might be driven mad by pain" I am at the "I have been driven mad, someone PLEASE find me the pliers RIGHT NOW" level.
--I took a Vicodin that I had left over from a surgery. I figured, Vicodin helps with surgeries, I'll be fine. It is doing ABSOLUTELY nothing, and I am shocked.
--I tried Aleve, same story. I simply cannot believe these painkillers are like popping sugar pills.
--I thought I was being "safe" by purchasing the new Crest Sensitive Strips (not the whitening ones). They are supposed to target sensitive teeth and gums. Well, they are about a centimeter and a half long, so I had to use a total of eight. Four on the front teeth, four on the back. It dulled the pain while they were on, but afterward, the pain came rushing back like riptide.
--Next, I tried Oragel Severe. That stuff is pretty gooey, but it provided relief for about 30 minutes. Then, the pain returned and the stabbing was worse. Is it rebelling against my attempts?Read more ›
