Axel Rudi Pell delivers again...,
By
This review is from: Crest (Audio CD)
Axel Rudi Pell continue on a hot streak following up the excellent "Tales of the Crown" with another stellar performance in "The Crest". The current band has performed together for quite some time now and they are a tight, cohesive unit. Axel is one of rock's most underrated guitar players and continues to showcase his talents on "The Crest". The instrumental "Noblisse Obige" is a stunning piece of work and brings back memories of vintage UFO. The songwriting on "The Crest" is very solid and veteran singer Johnny Gioeli is in top-notch form. Teranna,Krawzak and Doenberg are all excellent musicians and help make this one of the top ten melodic cds of 2010. Buy it now!

"ARP" recreate the magic of "Tales of the crown" on their new album "The crest".,

This review is from: Crest (Audio CD)
"The Crest" is the 14th studio album by German guitar legend Axel Rudi Pell featuring the well established line up of Johnny Gioeli on vocals, Ferdy Doernberg on keyboards, Volker Krawczak on bass and drummer Mike Teranna. This line up reached a considerable artistic peak on their previous studio album "Tales of the crown" which demonstrated such performance intensity and drama rarely found in their previous works.
It is with much relief therefore that one realizes that "The crest" picks up exactly where "Tales of the crown" left off two years ago. Much like their previous album, it seems that the band has purposely put emphasis on making the main body of each song as catchy as possible, while stretching the choruses to be as large as they can get; in addition Teranna's drumming is up front in the mix which makes the end result even more intense. Beyond the factors explored above, one can expect the well established Pell-guitar playing of extra thick Stratocaster riffs and melodic soloing as defined by Ritchie Blackmore. Johnny Gioeli is every bit the melodic voice that one recognizes for over 15 yeas. I would also like to stand on the song "Prisoner of Love" which carries the very same feeling, found on the guitarist's late 80s debut album, which will probably succeed in generating a nostalgic feeling from any long term fan of the band. Other favorites include "Too late" and "Burning Rain". Overall another top quality album from Pell and co; As the previous album, so "The crest" captures the current line up at its artistic peak. Totally recommended.
