Frequently Asked Questions

Still unsure about Crest 3D White Whitestrips? Get your questions answered.

I have teeth sensitive to whitening. Can using Whitestrips make it worse?
If you already have teeth sensitive to whitening, but still want to use Whitestrips, Gentle Routine Whitestrips offer less whitening-related sensitivity.

Some people may temporarily experience a small amount of tooth sensitivity when using whitening products, which is completely normal, but know that Whitestrips are absolutely enamel safe.

How are whitening treatments different than whitening toothpastes? Do I really have to bother with two forms of whitening?
Tooth stains can fall in two general categories: extrinsic stains and intrinsic stains. Extrinsic stains are stains at the tooth’s surface. Intrinsic stains are stains beneath the tooth’s surface. Although most whitening toothpastes are a great way to remove stains on a daily basis, most only work on the surface to provide an extrinsic benefit to your smile.

Whitestrips, on the other hand, work both on surface stains as well as beneath the surface of the enamel. Going beyond where most whitening toothpastes leave off, Whitestrips whiten beneath the enamel surface for an overall whiter smile. Because of the extrinsic and intrinsic value of Whitestrips, you’ll see results that are noticeable.

Once I get a whiter smile, what is the best way to protect my new look?
Once you’ve achieved the whitening results you want, one way to maintain your whiter smile and protect against everyday stain buildup is using Crest 3D White 5 Minute Touch-Ups. Crest 3D White 5 Minute Touch-Ups are a quick, simple way to maintain your whiter smile.

Another way to maintain your whiter smile is to use the collection of Crest 3D White products, which include toothbrushes, toothpastes and rinses. When used daily, the collection of Crest 3D White products will keep your smile whiter and brighter, guaranteed.

What's the difference between Whitestrips and in-office, professional treatments?
There are two main differences between most in-office whitening treatments and Crest Whitestrips: 1) How the whitening ingredient is applied, and 2) Cost. Both whitening methods use the same whitening ingredient: hydrogen peroxide. However, Intensive Professional Effects Whitestrips use a 10% concentration, while most in-office procedures use up to a 35% concentration. Lights and lasers are also used during in-office procedures to help show results more quickly than at-home procedures.

However, because of this immediacy in results, in-office treatments cost more than Whitestrips. So, if speed is a priority for you, but cost is an issue, then try Intensive Professional Effects Whitestrips. They deliver professional-level results in the convenience of your home.

If the concentration of hydrogen peroxide is lower than in-office procedures, then do Whitestrips really work?
Absolutely. In fact, Crest 3D White Intensive Professional Effects and Professional Effects Whitestrips have enough whitening ingredient concentration to provide professional-level results.

How can I be sure which Whitestrips are right for me?
Whitestrips offer seven treatments, each tailored to different needs. The difference in each treatment is in the level of whitening and duration of wear time. For visible results that require only 30 minutes daily, there are three great options: Crest 3D White Vivid, Advanced Vivid and Professional Effects.

What if I want faster whitening? Is there anything that I can use to start seeing results immediately?
For whiter results in less time, try Crest 3D White Intensive Professional Effects. Offering whiter results as effective as a professional treatment, Intensive Professional Effects will give your smile Crest’s highest level of whitening in just one week — perfect for an upcoming occasion.

I noticed results the very first day, and by the last treatment my teeth were very white.

It requires you use it for 2 hours/day for 7 days; after the 4th day I had to stop using it just to stop the agony I suffered!
AYR
I wouldn't promise they won't be painful, but they MAY not be, even with normally sensitive teeth.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've used Crest Whitestrips before and they definitely work. I had used the 30min versions and was always pleased with the results, so when I saw the Intensive Professional Effects pop up on my Vine Newsletter I thought, hey, why not?

Well, the good news is they work very very well. They stick to your teeth better than the 30min ones do, and the effects are very noticable after one use.

The bad news comes in two areas. First, 2 hours is a pretty long time commitment, since these things are not invisible. You won't be able to wear them out in public and be talking to people. My work schedule is pretty busy, so I found it hard to use them every single day.

Second, the sensitivity issue. I know they say its temporary and it is, but whereas the 30min strips left my teeth sensitive for a few hours, these take days to recover from. That combined with the need of 2 solid hours of around-the-house time keep me from using them every day.

Again, they work well, but Crest also makes versions that, while maybe not as fast acting, work better with most peoples schedules. An effective product that provides a nice alternative to expensive dentists visits, but know what you're getting into before you start.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Of all of the Crest Whitestrips line-up, this version sticks to and stays on your teeth the best. The difference in products is noticeable from the start - the strip whitening product is more solid than gel-like. Consequently, when you stick the strips on your teeth, they stick & don't slide around like the ones with the gel whitening solution.

I have a small jawline, so the strips are plenty wide and cover my teeth to my pre-molars (unlike some Whitestrip products).

Results are noticeable in one use. However, because of the strength of the whitening solution & because of the number of hours on your teeth, if your teeth are sensitive, these strips may not work for you. For a coffee, tea, cola drinker, these will be my go-to product from now on.

UPDATE: I put the following information into the comments section, but because people are still reading this review, I thought I'd bring it out where it is easier to read:

1. Although its seems counter-intuitive, make sure that you do NOT brush your teeth before putting on the whitestrip. The instructions instruct you not to - maybe because some of your tooth crude is a protectant? I've found that the (not) brushing makes a difference in whether I get a "twangy" tooth or not.

2. If you have tooth sensitivity, first try a different whitestrip - one that you only leave on for 30 minutes: Crest 3d White Professional Effects Teeth Whitening Strips 20 Count. You can apply a new pair of 30 minute whitestrips back to back if you want. These strips work well too, but it just takes a little longer to see results.

I too myself had crazy thoughts of yanking my teeth out of my mouth after the first application, due to the intensity of the after wards pain, BUT I have discovered a way to completely avoid it!

*cut the strips so that they do not fold over the edges of your teeth, because this is where the pain will be coming from due to the thin enamel.*

*while using this product, I highly recommend purchasing "Thera Dent" teeth desensitizing oral wash and use it through out the entire week you whiten your teeth with these strong Whitestrips. This mouthwash will put minerals back into your teeth that the strips may weaken.*

*Brush your teeth with a toothpaste created for sensitive teeth during the days you whiten. Toothpaste must contain 5% potassium nitrate and fluoride.*

*try holding a warm concentrated table salt and water solution in your mouth right after removing the strips."

I did all of this today and I did not experience ANY discomfort or sensitivity on my teeth. So this method WORKS!!!! =D

I gave this product 5 stars after finding a way around the problems is can cause.

Good Luck!!

I have tried both the Crest Whitestrips Professional Effects with level 4 whitening and the Intensive Professional Effects with level 5 whitening. I have also had professional whitening done in the past through the dentist.

I want to state up front that whitening your teeth will not be a painless process. You are putting peroxide and other whitening ingredients onto your teeth and they are made to permeate the surface. You have nerves inside your teeth and peroxide burns. Tooth and gum sensitivity is to be expected. You're bleaching your teeth. Do not whiten your teeth expecting zero sensitivity or pain. To expect that is like expecting exercise to not make your muscles really hurt when you haven't exercised them in a very long time. It's going to hurt.

How do you deal with the sensitivity? What I do is start brushing with a toothpaste made to cut back on sensitivity at least 14 days in advance of the whitening process. Also use a mouthwash or rinse made for sensitivity as well. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR TEETH RIGHT BEFORE APPLYING ANY WHITENING PRODUCTS!! The reason for this is because when you brush your teeth you commonly get very tiny cuts in your mouth. To use whitening products too soon after brushing your teeth is basically to put peroxide directly into these tiny cuts which equals a lot more pain, and you're also directly putting the peroxide into your bloodstream which can make you sick. Wait at least an hour after brushing to apply the whitestrips. If you're worried about debris on your teeth you can rinse your mouth out with water.

For the first few days expect a lot of tooth sensitivity. I learned to take a Tylenol in advance of applying the whitestrips and it significantly cuts down on pain.
