4.0 out of 5 stars Seems great -but does it stain teeth?
I've been using Crest's Mouthwash for a while now, I prefer it because alcohol mouthwash is bad for some orthodontic appliances. I actually came on to Amazon to order the new Health Rinse 12-hour since it ships free with Amazon Prime. So while I would normally give this product 5 stars because it tastes fine, doesn't sting at all and seems to work fine, I'm hesitating...

At the beginning mouthwash was fine. Nice not having the alcohol burn and the breath, that my girlfriend hated. So that was nice.

But after extended use for a month it stained in between my teeth brown. It looked terrible and it cost me a one hundred dollar trip to the dentist to scrape that junk off. The dentist advised that it was my mouthwash after hearing it was this Crest mouthwash that I was using. I was surprised that a mouthwash that is suppose to help clean your teeth actually does the opposite.

Beware: Your better off not using mouthwash if you want clean teeth. Or, use Listerine.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's Stain-i-rific!, December 18, 2006

This product is absolutely fantastic if you are trying to get BROWN STAINS ALL OVER YOUR TEETH!

I used just one bottle before the stains were visible. I decided to finish off a second bottle to really highlight the stains and show them off to everyone I opened my mouth to.

When I contacted the company to thank them for finally making such a great teeth staining product, they told me that I was partially to thank because "some people develop stains if they have preexisting tartar problems". Thanks Proctor and Gamble, but unfortunately I can't take any credit for your product working so well when it comes to staining my teeth. I have never had a single problem with tartar or high levels of it in my life. But thanks for trying to blame the consumer for your product working so well at staining teeth!

I did file a report with the Better Business Bureau, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the FDA, and also I took the time to write letters to a few major retailers who distribute this product to let them know just how damn well it works at staining teeth (only a bottle or two! that is amazing efficiency!). I encourage everyone else to do so.

So to recap, if you want big dark brown stains all over each and every single tooth if your skull which you can spend all your energy trying to remove but can't get off (it takes months of abstinence from using this product before they start to fade away) then PLEASE, TRY CREST PRO-HEALTH RINSE, THE NUMBER ONE TEETH STAINING PRODUCT WHICH IS NOT YET ILLEGAL IN THE UNITED STATES!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Removes your sense of taste!, June 27, 2006

I have used this product twice, and I completely hated it after the first try. It left a burned plactic taste in my mouth, and after I swished with it I spit out these little blue balls. My tongue was also blue, which was really confusing because when holding the bottle up to the light there was no blue residue floating around in it.

But even worse than the blue balls and the aftertaste was the fact that it completely ruined my sense of taste, I couldn't taste ANYTHING. I used this product at 10 at night and when I got up to have breakfast at 7 in the morning I couldn't even taste it. My taste takes literally hours to come back.

I'm so glad I got on here to read about this product, because I can't believe it turns teeth brown. I threw my bottle away this morning.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crest Pro-Health Rinse is UNSAFE, January 30, 2007

This product should be taken off the market. Aside from serious staining of the teeth, it causes you to lose your sense of taste. I have been using this product for about 12 months on the advice of my dentist.

I have lost my taste completely and have discussed my concerns with a neurologist. Thankfully I read the comments on this list, stopped using this product two days ago and my tongue feels less coated already.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR SENSE OF TASTE AND YOU WANT CLEAN TEETH ! ! !

I am reporting this product to the FDA.

There should be a rating for ZERO stars for this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars A Better Way to Stain Your Teeth Brown Than Chewing Tobacco, February 9, 2007

just joining the chorus - this stuff does not have alcohol in it like Listerine, so it freshens your breath and keeps your mouth germ free for hours. Quite nice, as Listerine leaves alcohol coating (i.e. sugar) in your mouth that then gives you worse breath a few hours after using it as germs love sugar. Crest solves that problem, but adds brown stains after as little as two weeks of use.

If you stop using it, the stains go away in about a month. Your dentist can clean the stains off quickly and effectively and will reassure you the stains are not harmful or permanent. This is little consolation, as who wants brown stained teeth in between dental cleanings?

Bottom line, it amazes me that Crest is trying to market this stuff. The current consumer trend towards unnaturally white teeth is a bit sad, but certainly no one wants brown teeth. Three other people I know who tried this gunk had the same problem, so Crest's bogus claims about "only some people are effected" is pure corporate disinformation. I have no idea why they sell this, why the FDA lets them do it, or why retailers (including Amazon) let them market it to their customers.

Don't buy this, complain to retailers and the Feds, and wait for this and the other Crest Pro Health "innovation" (stannous i.e. staining) fluoride toothpaste to vanish from the market. Crest's marketing team and the whorish dentists they bribed to endorse these products deserve every possible censure.

1.0 out of 5 stars My 10-year-old's teeth look like he's been chewing tobacco, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Crest PRO-HEALTH Rinse - 500 ml (Health and Beauty)
I bought this mouth rinse for my 10-year-old son after our dentist recommended it. My son's teeth were white and looked fantastic at the time of his last checkup. One week later, he came to me and said: "Mom, what's all this brown stuff on my teeth? I've tried and tried, but I can't get it off." He had ugly brown stains at the gum lines of his lower teeth. Since then, he's continued to use the rinse and his teeth now look like he's been chewing tobacco for years. In addition to dark stains at his gum lines, he has stains in between his teeth, both upper and lower. I'm glad to finally figure out what the problem is, but I'm angry. He has a dental appointment coming up and I just hope they can get it off.

Believe me, Crest is going to hear about this, and if my son's teeth are permanently ruined, they are going to hear from my lawyer as well.

I bought this rinse for my son who couldn't use Listerine because of the burn. It has been almost two months since he started using it, his teeth are brown, they were white before he started using this. I have done some reading about the active ingredient in this rinse, it does cause staining of teeth. I agree with the lady above, stop using this and go back to Listerine, yes it burns but at least it doesn't stain your teeth!! Also the aftertaste can last for hours, if you can taste anything at all with this, it doesn't taste right. And this is more costly than Listerine and it's just not worth the money!!

2.0 out of 5 stars It's true, December 28, 2006

I'm on my second bottle. I bought it because I tend to have sore gums that sometimes bleed, despite flossing and brushing. It definately freshens your mouth, and does so for a long time, as well as kills germs. The problems are: 1. It can kill your sense of taste (foods taste kind of "metallic" the next day after you use it). 2. It does stain teeth. I've had perfectly bright and shiny teeth all of my life. After using this product, I started noticing small brown stains appearing on several teeth. Fortunately they are more towards the middle and back, but I am still not very happy, and I hope these stains fade with time.

My dentist recommended this product to me also and I now have brown stains in between all of my teeth. I am relieved to have found these reviews and know what the culprit is. Don't use this product unless you want to ruin your teeth!

1.0 out of 5 stars Whaddya know..., July 14, 2006
This review is from: Crest PRO-HEALTH Rinse - 500 ml (Health and Beauty)
It's true! It does stain your teeth. I looked in the mirror the other day and thought my teeth were turning brown, but then I thought I must be imagining things. I thought to myself, I brush regularly, use mouthwash, don't smoke, don't chew, etc so how could my teeth be turning brown? I came to Amazon today to order some more of this stuff and noticed these reviews. Now I realize that my teeth really are turning brown and it's the mouthwash that is doing it. Thank you reviewers, I'll order something else now.
