Before the word resort was applied to them, all the communities of the San Bernardino Mountains boasted a wild and woolly lumberjack lifestyle. But soon, efforts to take advantage of the clean air, alpine vistas, and winter snows of this region just a few hours away from Los Angeles led to a new kind of development. The town of Crestline, while possessing striking scenery, was also essential in the creation of Lake Arrowhead as the staging area for cement and supplies arriving to build Lake Arrowhead's dam. An outpost in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, today's Crestline is a year-round resort and residential community near the popular Lake Gregory, built during the Depression and now part of a county regional park.

About the Author
Author Rhea-Frances Tetley is a fourth generation Californian whose family developed Valley of Enchantment, which has become a neighborhood community of current day Crestline, near Lake Arrowhead. She is a past president and a founder of the Crest Forest/Rim of the World Historical Society, a local history writer for the Alpenhorn News and the Crestline Chronicle, and the author of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America: Lake Arrowhead.

This is a great book for those who want some history of Crestline. I had the pleasure of meeting Rhea, she was very nice. To my surprise, my home is actually in this book, even though it looks totally different today. Great book, great info!

I bought this book when it first came out. Mostly for 2 reasons, one was I lived in Crestline and the other was because I had met Rhea on several occasions. Turns out that the book is so interesting and full of history about the area. I loved it and would encourage anyone interested in history to read it. The author did a great job. In fact, I'm ordering one for my daughter for her birthday.
