The mouth of this gently rounded pot measures 9 inches across, while its flat bottom is only 4 inches, allowing you to use the small burner on your stove for a relatively big pot: the wide surface area will speed any soup or stock reduction you have in mind. We use this soup pot for just about everything. It's the perfect size for making a sauce or cooking vegetables. We have a small minimalist kitchen with only 3 pots (2 LeCreuset and 1 Lodge)and probably use this one most often. It cleans up easily. For food that adheres or even burns, just soak it in water for about 1/2 hour and it comes clean with a regular sponge, soap, and water. The drawbacks are the price and the inability to use metal utensils with it. Every few months we clean the outside with a scouring pad to retain its beautiful glaze.

Although this pot was designed as a soup pot, I use it for lots of things--soups, stews, chili, curries, noodle dishes, etc., because it is so easy to serve from--lots of room to get a ladle or large serving spoon in and out of. It is a great addition to my Le Creuset collection. This was the usual outstanding purchase transaction I have experienced with Amazon--they kept me informed every step of the way, shipped the item immediately, and the item was received in perfect condition.
