Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Beautiful enough for the table and durable enough to outlive its lifetime warranty against defects, this heavy, round, 2-quart French oven is perfect for preparing and ceremoniously serving dishes like cassoulet and vegetable soup. It's made of cast iron, with both exterior and interior clad in two coats of enamel.

As cast iron is unexcelled for heat distribution and retention and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the oven (or casserole) browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating. It's safe on any stovetop, including induction, and dishwasher-safe. The plastic knob on its heavy, tight-fitting lid is ovenproof to 450 degrees F. Like all Le Creuset cast-iron products, it's hand cast in a one-of-a-kind sand mold and hand finished at the Le Creuset factory in France. It carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Product Description

The traditional method of slow-cooking meals in a pot will fill your house with the aroma that says "home." At 2 quart capacity this is a fine choice for a smaller household for jobs like cooking grains or vegetables, or warming up soups, or making sauces.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a cute little pot, November 9, 2003
This review is from: Le Creuset 2-Quart Round French Oven, Blue (Kitchen)
This was the first pot of my le Creuset collection, and it still gets used regularly in the household.

While the pot is shaped like the other le Creuset french ovens, it's way too small to make typical dishes like casseroles or cassoulets. Instead, we use it for rice or other cooked grains - the heavy lid and good heat capacity do just the right thing, and it's small and pretty enough to bring to the table to serve from.

Lately, I've also been using the heat capacity in the other direction - when cooled empty in the fridge, this pot is really good for quickly cooling down and storing leftover soup or sauces.

And, it's really cute.

This review is from: Le Creuset 2-Quart Round French Oven, Blue (Kitchen)
I agree with those reviewers who've said that this 2-quart oven is not something you'll be making stews or casseroles in. It's too small for that. It is, however, absolutely perfect for cooking grains, which is why it gets more daily use in my kitchen than my bigger french ovens do. It's fabulous for rice, oatmeal, grits, you name it. The fact it performs beautifully both on the stovetop and the oven makes it excellent for pilafs, since you can execute every aspect of pilaf production in the same pot. This is a very worthwhile addition to anybody's kitchen.

I so enjoy this pot. It heats evenly and retains heat. I can make a pot of something after school and then turn the stove/oven off and the food is still fairly warm when the kids want dinner. With the two quart size, I can experiment effortlessly with healthier (no salt) dishes for myself while the family enjoys something else. It's a pretty pan that lives on our stove, a gentle reminder to drag out a cookbook and try something new. It's cooking literally outside the box. :-)
