5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, exotic and functional
In the Le Creuset fashion, this tagine is beautifully and authentically styled. Although original tagines were made of clay, this cast model cooks beautifully and can be used on stove top or in the oven. The unusual funnel shape helps to maintain moisture in the food, and blends the flavors into mouthwateriing dishes. I love the quality of Le Creuset and am very happy to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Enamel on base had flaked off
I loved using this piece of cookware until I noticed the enamel on the base is flaking off. It wouldn't be a problem if it was on the outside of the base, but it's on the inside, so I haven't used it since noticing. I see everyone else is very happy with theirs, so it might be that I got a defective one. Le Creuset wants me to pay for the shipping to send it back (both...

4.0 out of 5 stars Tajine-ius!, February 24, 2010
By
I first encountered both Moroccan cuisine and Le Creuset's version of the classic Moroccan tajine in France several years ago. Only upon my return to the United States, however, was my desire for this obscure item finally fulfilled. As is the case with all Le Creuset cookware I've used, the tajine's heavy cast iron base distributes heat evenly and effectively. The tajine is essentially a braising device: the temperature differential between the hot base and the cooler ceramic top causes rising steam to condense, basting the contents as they cook. A simple tajine of chicken and sweet potato with stewed prunes or apricots and almonds produces impeccably moist chicken and well-cooked vegetables each and every time. I've yet to try my hand at lamb, but I anticipate similarly succulent results. The base alone serves equally well for small curries, sauces or stews. My only wish would be for a slightly larger tajine; the two-liter capacity is perfect for two to four people, but would be too small for any more copious meal. Ultimately, though, this is an unusual and unusually versatile and effective piece of cookware and I feel very fortunate to own one!

I loved using this piece of cookware until I noticed the enamel on the base is flaking off. It wouldn't be a problem if it was on the outside of the base, but it's on the inside, so I haven't used it since noticing. I see everyone else is very happy with theirs, so it might be that I got a defective one. Le Creuset wants me to pay for the shipping to send it back (both the top and bottom piece, even though the bottom is the only part with the problem) so they can evaluate it. It's pretty heavy, so I'm pondering whether to skip the shipping and just move to a different brand and toss this one. Hopefully nobody else will have this problem with theirs. Mine is about a year old, and I've used it maybe 10 times. Update: I decided to return the unit and they replaced it without a problem. I think the shipping was around $20, but hopefully this one won't have any issues. I upgraded my review to 3 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, smaller than anticipated, January 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The tagine works as advertised. We've had three meals and all were excellent. On the "con" side, heat transfers to the lid and it can get quite hot. Size is an issue when trying to cook for more than three or four people. Other than that, we are very pleased with the results. The Tagine was delivered in just a few days, which was a pleasant surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars you can't make a bad meal in a good Tagine, July 20, 2010

It is pretty much impossible to mess up. As long as you cook the ingredients slowly, it will be yummy and this is a great Tagine. Good heavy bottom for even cooking. Try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to my kitchen!, December 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Le Creuset item is sturdy, beautiful, and the food turns out delicious. The tagine cooks food slowly, so you have to allow the time necessary to cook, but the wait is well worth it. I also purchased the tagine recipe cards with this cookware. The tagine comes with a small recipe book to try some traditional Morroccan dishes. It is pricy for a slow cooker, but I have owned only Le Creuset cookware since 1980, and it does last a lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Cooking.... Presentation..., May 17, 2010

Cogito_Ergo_Fun "CD" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
We bought this today at GA Premioum Outlets. They have a 35% discount in addition till May 31st! We came home and through in the pot whatever we had veggie wise. Half a Cauliflower, Garbanzo beans, Curry powder, spring onions, red onion, half a carrot... walnuts, raisins etc. We had the dish before in many countries, but never cooked. Prepared cous-cous and did "nothing" for 50 minutes. Long story short, the results WERE AMAZING! Absolutely phenomenal taste. We splurged to get the base with it, so we set it to the table and took pictures. It is really beautiful. But back to the tasting, it is just a phenomenal taste and sooo easy to work with. The condensation makes it ultra tasty and soft. Worth the money, and if you can get the discount for 110 buck or so, its a deal! I would prefer a bigger one, I saw a 3 1/2 Qrt in UK site, but that's ok.

C

P.S. note that the lid will spill over as you add water... I guess will reduce the amounts of veggies next time as we like the sauce. Also, some moronic comments that the lid get's hot...what you expect from a cast iron core below ???

5.0 out of 5 stars Le Creuset Tagine, August 24, 2011
By
James R Phalan (Penang, Malaysia) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I received the product intact as only the bottom is cast iron. The top is ceramic. Tangine cooking is remarkable. I've tried "simulated" Tagine cooking before, but owning a real Tagine makes all the difference. The food comes out perfectly cooked and very moist, which is the point. The only issue I have is that this Tagine is a bit small if one was to have dinner party type fare.
