5.0 out of 5 stars The lovliest Le Creuset ever!, June 12, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
I went mad when I first saw this amazing cassarole. Fans of the other shaped le creusets will love this beauty. Unlike the heart and shamrock designs, the pumpkin has a more realistic 3D shape. But what really impressed me was the daring offset handle on the lid. Genius! Of course, the shaped cassaroles have the same high quality of all of the le creuset pieces. I use mine mostly for stovetop dishes that finish in the oven. Of course, like all le creuset dishes, this one does double duty as tableware--but this time, with even more panache than usual! Okay, I'll quit gushing now. But I just love that pumpkin!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to sample the product line, October 1, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
I do not think there is a better way to sample this product line than through the fun casserole pots. They are reasonably priced, much cheaper than the standard 2 quart casserole, and still carries the same quality. These are extremely heavy pans that distribute the heat evenly though what you are cooking. I like the pumpkin for the fall cooking, I also purchased the tomato as well for summer and other seasonal cooking. This holds your standard casserole recipes. This is great for a pot luck, I promise you will be able to identify your dish, and it just flat out looks attractive. The colors are bright and distinct. You will enjoy this pot for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars More beautiful than I ever knew cookware could be, A+++++, June 26, 2003

This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
The pumpkin casserole is my first piece of Le Creuset, and it is awesome. I find it's easier to keep my kitchen clean because I WANT to clean this casserole dish. It displays beautifully on my stove, saving me cabinet space, and it works better than any nonstick pan I've ever used. I am in love with this cookware, and plan to eventually replace almost every cooking item I own with Le Creuset. It is the most artful and functional cookware I've ever encountered. The only thing that might be a drawback for some is the heavy weight of it, but hey, it's good exercise, right? I think it is worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Color, Great Fun, a Real Delight to Use!, March 15, 2005

This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
I have collected all of Le Creuset's fruit and vegetable shaped cast iron enameled casseroles. This was the first one that I bought and I have used it the most. They are beautiful to display on a table or on a kitchen counter and very practical in cooking delightful casseroles, soups, stews and other wonderful dishes. The color that they can add to a kitchen brightens every vist there. The exterior and interior enamel coating is very durable and easy to clean. I have cooked a multitude of dishes in these casseroles and have found them to be excellent in heat conduction and preventing "hot spots". The wider and lower shaped casseroles are a little better in spreading the heat.

The warranty against defects of 101 years will certainly last beyond my expected needs but it is nice to know that I have the protection since these are not inexpensive purchases.

The comments of guests served from these casseroles is always positive and never fails to bring a smile to my face.

There is a drawback to these whimsical cookers and that is the rim of both the top and bottom of the casseroles. There is no enamel on these rims and they can rust if not dried immediately after hand washing. They are dishwasher safe but I do recommend that you hand wash and dry immediately. I also recommend that you let them sit out for an hour or so to air dry before storing them.

When wet this casserole can be very slippery and the handles on the bottom and top help in preventing dropping them. Be really careful!

Finally, closely inspect your casserole when it arrives. My first garlic casserole had a two inch crack in the enamel. I did not have to contact Le Crueset since Amazon.com immediately sent a replacement to me and had the defective item picked up at my home at no charge. I commend them for standing behind the products they sell.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite cookware item!, August 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
I love this! Not only does it function beautifully, but it is a gorgeous work of art as well! This should be in every museum of modern art (some other Le Creuset items already are on display in museums). I use this piece mainly for scalloped potatoes--perfect results every time! It's also great for a medium-sized batch of homemade baked beans. I bought this initially for decorative purposes in my kitchen, but love its cooking results so much that I have since purchased eight other Le Creuset items. They are all wonderful. Cooking is an even greater pleasure for me since I started using Le Creuset. Other than All-Clad LTD frying pans, I'll never buy another brand again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great casserole, and witty to boot!, November 1, 2002

Le Creuset's cast iron cookware is great stuff. It is heavy, so it distributes heat evenly & holds it well. No hot spots, and the food stays warm at the table. The enamel is very easy to clean (even if you get a bit careless and burn something on). The lid on this fits really well. The pots are individually sandcast, and they are really high quality. Just in case, they come with a really long guarantee (it will definitely last longer than you will). This is not the cheapest cookware you can find, but you won't find better.

This pumpkin shares all the great features of the other Le Creuset cookware, and is a great visual pun besides. It looks good on the fall table (think Halloween and Thanksgiving). As someone else pointed out, it's easy to find when it's time to go home from a potluck.

I got my first 3 qt. Le Creuset pot a few years ago and just use it for everything!! saw this pumpkin one and just had to get it!! it's a tad bit smaller and because of the pumpkin shape it's awkward when stirring but it's so pretty, who cares?!! is a beautiful holiday addition to my kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for use on induction cooktop and convection, October 4, 2010
This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
This beautiful piece is one of my favorite Le Creuset cast iron fruits. The shape of the pumpkin makes it ideal for cooking steel cut oats on the portable induction cooktops sold here on Amazon such as the Mr. Induction and Sunpentown (also a favorite quality item). The cast iron is super-efficient and an energy saver. 200-300 watts on the induction is all it takes and their heat in about 3 seconds. These are heirloom items and will pass down to your children. I also have the apple, pepper and tomato. Nothing like having something so durable and useful that also adds to the color of your kitchen and appetite at the table. Wash gently by hand after a short soak. Air dry on rack or towel dry. When no room to display I store in the orig sturdy box with a towel under the inverted lid. This prevents the seam/seal from rusting or chipping. A brief soak in bleach water removes interior stains, although not sure if this is allowable over the long haul. Get an inexpensive small round Le Creuset for practice on use and care. Nylon Tuffy balls are safe. Le Creuset enamelware is worth the extra cost over the cheaper cast iron imitations. It is very thin wall, made of virgin high quality cast iron, hand finished and very even heating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Pumpkin, October 31, 2010

This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 2-1/4-Quart Pumpkin Casserole, Flame (Kitchen)
I bought this Pumpkin casserole from Amazon back in 2002 and it's still one of my favorites. It's so attractive and well-crafted you'll smile every time you use it. Mine still looks like new.

I like making rice in these pots because the lids fit so well and the rice doesn't burn on the bottom.

If you want to display your pots, a good way to do that is to buy a cast iron corner stand.

This goes from oven to stove to table, just as they say. Everywhere but the microwave. Plus it looks as cute as Cinderella's pumpkin and adds a dash of magic to a meal.
