We love this french oven!,

This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 5-Quart Oval French Oven, Red (Kitchen)
We were reluctant to spend the money on this french oven but it was worth every penny. It heats up evenly and browns meat beautifully. We use this 5qt. french oven to make great one pot meals (4 servings). Just last night we made braised short ribs that were mouthwatering. We often use this pan on the stove for browning or searing and then transfer the dish to the oven for further cooking. Other times we use it for slow cooking on the stove. Clean up with the pan is super easy. Everything just wipes right out. The pan is really heavy but that's what makes it cook so well. My wife used to hate to cook (I used to be the only cooking enthusiast in the family) but she loves this french oven because all her recipes come out tasting so good.

The Single Most Used Pot in My Kitchen!,
This review is from: Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 5-Quart Oval French Oven, Red (Kitchen)
We can't live without our Le Creuset cast iron oval French oven. Not only does it cook beautifully, clean up easily and transition easily from one environment to another, but it helps me feed my army while delivering a plethora of nutrients and vitamins.
For example, I'll cook a huge pot-roast with cabbage, carrots, potatoes and onions one night, then put all the leftovers in the refrigerator overnight. The next day I'll just pull out the French oven, cut up the left overs, add more veggies and some beef stock and let my homemade veggie beef stew simmer all day long. No need to change containers! All the nutrient rich juices, tidbits and gravies stay inside the oven and become easily incorporated into the next meal that I prepare. The oval oven fits larger birds for steaming, roasting and boiling. I also find that it competes for different "foot space" than my other pots and pans and thus doesn't cause crowding on my stove top when I've got several burners in use. I also love the fact that I can use the upturned lid as a holding space for veggies and other items I prepare for the pot.

This was my first and is still my favorite Le Creuset piece. It heats evenly, cleans up easily. It's great for small roasts (make your gravy in the same pot, it goes right on the stovetop), chili, soups, and everything in between. I can't imagine my kitchen life without this pot.

This French Oven is awesome! We are the proud owners of 2 LeCreuset ovens. This 5-quart really fits our needs better than the bigger one.
Definitely worth the $$$!

This pot is the perfect size. It cooks great and cleans easy. It is also beautiful enough to serve in. I have used it often since my purchase and have not been disappointed. It is one of my most expensive pieces, but I think it will last a life time.

I have been following the Le Creuset products for some time now. I must admit that I was very tempted to buy a more affordable brand such as Martha Stewart's but I resisted thinking that it's an investment. My daughter has the whole line and she is a chef. My first piece was the 2 3/4 Qt size but found it too small for the majority of dishes I cook for my family of 4. (Although it's great for side dishes.) The 5 Qt is perfect. I have used it multiple times already. I prepare main dishes in it and take it as is to church gatherings and pitch ins. It keeps the food hot for some time. The only negative is for the money it should have a better knob on the lid. The plastic just doesn't do it justice. So far very easy to clean.

Bought this for my wife for her birthday. It is an excellet pot for making stew, roasts, risotto, etc. Heavy & durable, easy to clean. The 5-qt size is a perfect everyday size and doesn't overwhelm the cooktop. Still able to use the other 3 burners when using this pot.

It seems like a lot to spend...,

After nearly 5 years of thinking about buying a Le Creuset French oven I finally gave into temptation.
Even with money being very tight right now in our home I decided now would be the perfect time to make this extravagant buy. I realize, now more than ever, if you are going to spend your hard earned money on something you should really make it a quality item. I can't even count the times I have bought something only to have to replace it shortly there after. So I did a days worth of research on the ovens and decided that oval would be best, since every now and then I may be using long cuts of meat... I chose black and bought a stainless steel knob to go with it. The black is beautiful and after 2 uses and 2 quick clean ups I have nothing bad to say about it. I feel it is a perfect starting point for my small family and I know that when the day comes I can upgrade to another wonderful French oven from Le Creuset. All in all very pleased.

I am ecstatic with the results I get using this French oven. It looks great, cooks evenly, and cleans up VERY easily. Tonight I made braised short ribs in red wine, and it was great. I had never tried cooking short ribs before, but having this oven is giving me the courage to be much more adventurous with my cooking. I have made "no knead" bread in the oven, and it was yeasty and delicious.

I love to cook, and really, this french oven is great!! It is heavy but that is what makes it perfect for slow cooking and also it is not to big, and not too small. I love it.
I think Cast Iron with the enamel makes a perfect combination, but you must take care of them, because the enamel can chip... but it still works perfect!! |
