5.0 out of 5 stars amazing quality that guests won't forget
i got these at sur la table in charlotte, nc... before they even hit the floor. they come in a great little box for storage and include a recipe book... haven't tried a recipe in it yet, but it looks pretty good from the start. my only complaint is that you can tell the recipe book is translated from french. they opted to stress style in the layout, so they don't always...

3.0 out of 5 stars These are stoneware, not enameled cast iron
I was expecting these to be a set of the Le Creuset mini-cocottes that are sold individually by Amazon (and Williams-Sonoma, Sur la table, etc.), but that's not what they are. Those are made of the usual Le Creuset enameled cast iron...this set is made of stoneware, just pottery.

It didn't say in the product description that these were stoneware, and I assumed...

It didn't say in the product description that these were stoneware, and I assumed they were cast-iron because their other mini-cocottes are cast-iron. That said, I probably should have guessed based on the price. I thought I was getting a deal with 4 cast-iron ones for $80; not such a deal when they're light-weight pottery instead.

Anyway, I may still keep them; haven't decided. They're very cute and I'm sure they'll bake well, but I think they're probably overpriced.

I do, and I think anyone who'd spend 20 bucks per mini cocotte would, too.

they're not a must-have kitchen item... but they sure will leave an impression on dinner guests.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my Mini Cocottes!, April 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These gorgeous little cocottes are so stunning when being served to guests.

I have made many entrees and deserts in them and they always turn out perfectly. Scallops Mornay is my favourite. The size is perfect for these dishes, but maybe could be larger for a soup. (You need to buy the 12 ounce ones)

I knew that they were not cast iron and I don't think they are hard to confuse with other products.

The cook book is beautiful and full of great recipes.

I absolutely recommend these lovely dishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheapened cookbook, May 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We just returned from France where we bought the French version of this cookbook. It contains about 39 recipes. The "free" US version has only 25. The FR version sells for ten euros. Much better. Why did LC decide to cheapen the "free" version for the US crowd? There is certainly no shortage of translators.

Anyone who enjoys cocotte cooking might enjoy the whole book even if it needs translation. The translations are simple and fun.

As for the Made in China complaint: Ipads and most of the other stuff we use every day are made in China. The cocotte quality is excellent once you get past the xenophobia of the earlier gripe. These are great little cocottes. They heat up faster than the metal ones and are vastly less expensive for the same job unless you need to use direct heat.

We bought one set to try them. We now have three sets of cocottes and two extra Americanized cookbooks to give away.

Great product but I have had to return it twice due to insufficient packaging for shipping. Both times the product was damaged and sent back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stoneware mini cocottes, January 15, 2010

Like an earlier reviewer, having looked at the product description for the individual mini cocotte I assumed that this set would be enamel cast iron--the traditional LeCreuset trademark product--and that the set was a special promo. Alas, the set is "stoneware"--just another name for pottery. The pieces are clearly good quality--but overpriced. I have not yet decided whether to keep them, since they are attractive and useful for individual servings. The cookbook that is included has some interesting recipes in it--the mini spinach souffles and the onion soup come to mind--although several recipes seem to use the mini cocottes as little more than serving pieces. For those who love all things LeCreuset, this may be worth the expense, even though the little-used lids are the only place the brand name is visible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not very useful, March 16, 2010

I've only used them once to make molten chocolate cakes (recipe in the included cookbook), and they worked quite well. The cakes were delicious, too. However, I really think this was a purchase I made on a whim because I like Le Creuset and this particular product is aesthetically pleasing. I do not think these mini cocottes are practical, but that is in part due to what I like to cook (soups and stir-fries).

The product was delivered in two days to my home in fine shape-brand new. It is as described. A fine transaction all the way around. Le Creucet makes fine cookware. It's good enough for any ocasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Single-Serving Dishes, January 29, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The one reviewer who gave it a 1 star said they were too small, he failed to read the title of the product "Mini Cocottes".

That being said they are about 1.5 times the capacity of a 10oz ramekin and with a fitting lid they are perfect for making single-serving casseroles of any kind. Why just last night I made cottage pie (shepherds pie) and they worked beautiful.

Well worth the price for quality.

This review is from: Le Creuset Set of 4 Mini Cocottes with Cookbook, Cobalt (Kitchen)
They are so tiny and there isn't much you can do with them. They are not worth the money.
