2.0 out of 5 stars Much smaller than expected, May 23, 2008

I expected a "9 inch" square baker to be larger than the 8 inch square baker I already have; but this dish isn't. It's immediately apparent when you see it, but I measured it to be sure. Measuring the inside dimensions, the bottom is 7 and 1/2 inches across. It's shallow, about 1 and 3/4 inches deep, and at the very top of the lip, it measures 8 and 1/2 inches across. While it does just barely measure 9 inches at its outer limits, I think it's misleading for Amazon and/or Le Creuset to describe this as a 9 inch square baker, which is generally understood to be an oversize dish. The small bonus dish was equally smaller than advertised. If you already have an 8" baker and are looking for the next larger size, keep looking - this will be a disappointment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great set from Le Creuset, August 13, 2008

I absolutely love this set. You get the quality of Le Creuset and for the price it's a great deal. I use these for everything; ziti, chicken, potatoes etc. With Le Creuset, the clean up is so easy; you do not have to constantly scrub the pan to get all the brown bits out like with a glass dish.

This set is good for personal use but makes a nice housewarming gift also.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love to bake in these, May 22, 2011

I love to bake in these because they heat evenly and hold the heat so that it takes less time to bake an item than a normal pan. Plus, I just like to have pretty things around the kitchen. Why cook with the ordinary when you can do with something bright and beautiful and fast. I would not recommend these for a special cake, such as a layer cake where everything has to be precise with level edges all around, but for the ordinary things, or for a casserole, can't be beat. HOWEVER: If you are using a mix to make your cake, you CAN make a beautiful square cake by using one mix to make one layer and then the next mix to make the next layer. I have now done so and it really works great and the cake looks really special. I would think that if you were a real "baker" type who knew that one batch would be equal to the next batch, you could do the same thing. Again, I love these pans.
I am not the world's most realiable baker type. I find that when I make things from scratch, I frequently have extra batter left over because I add nuts, fruit, granola, extras of this and that when I cook. So, I almost always have extra and that is what I use the little pan for.
I put the extra batter in it and have found that I can take that extra little cake to a friend or neighbor and it makes a great little gift. I love the extra little pan for just that reason!
