Made from durable stoneware, the cocotte features a hard-wearing, impermeable finish fired at temperatures as high as 2192 degrees F. With a porosity level of less than 1 percent, the dish blocks moisture absorption, so there's no chipping, cracking, crazing, or rippling along the interior to worry about. Its non-porous construction also resists odors, scratching, and staining for hygienic use and optimal cooking performance. Even more, its high-quality enamel protects against metal marks and other damage, which means it's safe for cutting on with knives. Best of all, the glaze on the exterior makes the dish fun to mix and match with other coordinating Le Creuset pieces (sold separately), while a neutral-colored glaze on the inside offers a pleasing contrast and an optimal palette for food presentation. And thanks to its unmatched thermal resistance from -65 degrees F to 500 degrees F, the dish moves gracefully from the microwave or oven (or under the broiler) to the table for serving to the refrigerator or freezer for storing leftovers. The dish includes a secure-fitting lid with a round-shaped knob to help trap heat and moisture, and its loop side handles facilitate steady transport. When finished, the cocotte cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher.

Good product, small package,

The first thing to know about the 12-oz casserole is that it's small -- good for individual servings of soup or other dishes, but not intended for much more.
As with all Le Creuset products, this is very attractive and made of high quality materials. I have two, and use them for hot appetizers/dips placed on either end of a large banquet table. It's also an elegant way, if not the most convenient, to warm up leftovers. I gave it four stars because the size limits its utility; if you know you want smaller casseroles, these are a good choice.

I love using these 12-ounce petite oval casseroles because they are durble, wash up easily, and make for a beautiful presentation. This combination of attributes is what really makes them valuable because I can use them everyday without worrying that they will chip and break. I typically wash them by hand or in the top rack of the dishwasher and have not had any issues with fading or chipping.
I tend to use them a lot of serving soups and invidual portions of casseroles like baked macaroni and cheese or individual pot pies. They make my presentation a little more special and always earn me comments from my guests. The one thing worth noting is that these are stoneware, not enameled cast iron. I realize this is stated clearly in the title but still worth repeating since the brand is known more for their cast iron products like dutch ovens and I would hate for someone to order this expecting cast iron and get stoneware instead. That said, they still do a pretty good job of retaining heat, but not nearly as well as the cast iron. Overall these are fantastic and after owning them for over a year I have no complaints. I highly recommend them.

Beautiful product. Great quality and rich looking. Great for making mini casseroles or for salsa or dips.
