I've had this mortar and pestle for a few years now and it's really held up well. The advantage of being stoneware is that it doesn't absorb flavors (wood) and you can safely use acids (granite), so it's very low maintenance. I would very much recommend the 20 OZ size, and even this is a little small for making guacamole for a family.

This is not a kitchen gadget! We use it at least once or twice a week. I love being able to destroy nuts for recipes without having to pull out the food processor. Gave it only 4 stars because on a few occasions we wished it was slightly larger (not huge, just a little bigger), but we don't regret buying it at all.
