This canister is a beautiful item to leave on a counter-top. It would be a shame to hide it from view, but I'm about to do just that. While it will store coffee, flour, cereal, etc., very nicely, I bought it to store sourdough. The canister does that very well indeed; it is non-reactive, which is crucial with sourdough. You can seal the canister fairly snugly due to the rubber gasket inside the lid. With my sourdough, however, it is important that the container not be sealed tightly. That, too, is do-able with this delightful container. As long as the sourdough is being maintained daily, the canister can remain on the counter, but it must be refrigerated if you're not 'feeding' the sourdough each day.

The caribbean color of this canister is fabulous... It matches my carribean Zen teakettle by Le Creuset.

I have all three sizes of this canister in Cherry Red. I have two of this particular size and use them to store coffee right on my counter top. One is for regular and one for decafe. Each one holds about 3/4 of a pound of coffee and its stays very fresh thanks to the plastic gasket. Hint: Don't overfill or the product gets in the gasket and then spills out each time you open it. The two larger canisters each hold a full bag of sugar and a full bag of flour. Very convenient when it's time to bake. All the Le Creuset colors are so bright beautiful and finishes are flawless.
