I'm not sure where too begin. The story line was good however my issues were with the amount of characters...too many. It was hard for me to keep up with who was who throughout the first half of the book. I had to keep going back to remind myself who it was the author was referring to. The other issue was editing...I don't know if it was the kindle edition that only had this problem but in both arts if the series there were serious editing issues. With that being said the overall story was ok.

I didn't know what to expect when I began reading Crew Love, because I was a little leary about reading street literature. However, author Antwan Floyd dispelled my hesitation. Crew Love has very engaging characters, with a realistic storyline that is full of content. Mr. Floyd did a great job of portraying life from the streets. Crew Love is well-written and a good read!

Crew Love by Antwan Floyd is a slice of ethnic crime fiction in the tradition of Walter Mosley, Chester himes and Donald Goines. Antwan has good instincts. I see raw talent between the pages of Crew Love. Some of his phrasing simply sparkles. Like these: He stood in the doorway looking like a man who got away with murder (or) First they give you a loan, and everything is sweeter than a Mississippi sissy eating sugar cane. His timing is good, the vernacular spot on, which gives the story its urban mood, but his rejection of the formal approach contributes to a lack of unity and slips in character development. Crew Love is narrated in the first person by several characters, and there are several violations of the first person conventions. In one section narrated by Bethel she's in a scene with a character named Smoke and there are flowers in the room. Bethel narrates to the reader that the flowers remind Smoke of back down South. Well, there is no way that Bethel could know what the flowers remind Smoke of if you are sticking to the rules of first person narrative. Antwan switches from first person to third in certain parts of the narrative, and that can be as jolting as hitting a pothole in an otherwise smooth road. Linguistic innovations can be a two edged sword. Antwan leaves little to the imagination of his readers. He describes his characters in full, height, weight, complexion etc. That got a little tiring for me. He should have left some of this to the imagination of the reader. In spite of the flaws in this gem, I highly recommend Crew Love, and look forward to reading more of Antwan Floyd's work. Antwan has what it takes.

There was too much going on with too many characters. Kind of hard to keep up. But had some unexpected events.

This was a great book. Enjoyable reading for those who want to experience a certain type of life without actually experiencing it.
