IMHO, Amazon booksellers want to keep this book in their own libraries. Too hard to part with.

The color palette is rich. The designs are clean, elegant traditional. The instructions are clear. The photos are true. The patterns are colored line drawings (colored pencil from the looks of it) and full size. Projects are done in wool threads, in silk threads, in cotton threads. Flowers, fruit, birds, insects, and those gorgeous leaves in green and gold and Jacobean blue.

Simple instructions for how to do seeding stitch without going nuts, page 125; it was fun.

I embroidered the blue Jacobean flower with leaves shown on the cover of the book. The whole project flowed effortlessly and enjoyably. How did that happen?

Because Sue Hawkins understands the laws of design: unity, harmony, variety, balance, contrast, proportion, repetition and marries them to the other laws of design: line, color, shape, texture, form, value and space. Perfectly. And when you stitch these projects, you begin to absorb all of that.

Finishing instructions, as in, how to make it look like the picture in the book.

I always read the acknowledgements. This is Sue Hawkins thanking among others, "The ladies who attend my classes who didn't complain when I wouldn't let them come because I was working on this book." Lovely.
