Biography

JOE on JOE

As far as where I’m at with my new music and my new label, Red Bow, this is more than a new chapter. It’s a new book. My #1 single “Sunny And 75” is getting as great a reception as anything I’ve ever done, and the album it comes from is something I might have hoped I could do at other points in my career, but have been held back from. Editorial Reviews

2013 release, the eighth album from the Country singer/songwriter. The album was produced by Derek George and Mickey Jack Cones. Crickets includes the first single, 'Sunny And 75' as well as a cover of Merle Haggard's 'Footlights'. Thus far, Nichols has produced 14 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and looks to continue that streak with this album.

Joe Nichols is one of the most underrated country singers out there today. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone with a better, more pure voice than Joe. He uses no studio magic, no auto-tune, no synthesizers - just him and the music. He consistently has put out superb albums, and this one is no exception.

This is a tale of two albums. There are 16 songs on here, which is twice what his last offering produced. The front half of the disc is geared more towards the pop country crowd. The second half are more traditional country songs, like most of Joe's previous albums. And both halves are superb!

Let me break it down:

1) Yeah - 5/5; a fun, lighthearted, catchy country tune about getting a girl. I'm pretty sure this is going to be his next single.

2) Hard to be Cool - 4/5; another fun, poppy, lighthearted song about being with a hot woman. Catchy, but not as memorable as some of the others.

3) Y'ant to - 4/5; fun, upbeat, catchy song about asking a woman to join him for some fun after meeting her in a bar

4) Hee Haw - 5/5; Joe's voice sounds amazing on this song. It's amazing how low his baritone can go. Super fun, catchy, upbeat song.

5) Just Let Me Fall in Love with You - 5/5; slower, sweet song about falling in love (obviously)

6) Baby You're in Love with Me - 3.5/5; very poppy, mid-tempo song. Gets a little repetitive - not one of my favorites.

7) Better than Beautiful - 5/5; one of the best tracks on the album! Slow, very sweet song you'd imagine singing to a woman. Joe's voice sounds fantastic.

8) Gotta Love it - 4/5; mid tempo, poppy, upbeat song about how happy someone is now that he's in love. Catchy and fun. Not a fan of the horns in the background.

9) Sunny and 75 - 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album! October 10, 2013

I normally don't consider myself a Joe Nichols fan but I might have to change my way of thinking after listening to this album. It's absolutely fantastic. There's arguably not one bad song on it. There's a little bit of something for everyone. Those who like "pop country" will enjoy Hee Haw and most of the front end of this album. Those who like "classic country" will enjoy the back end including Billy Graham's Bible which sounds like a George Strait song in my opinion. It's stunning that Joe Nichols can release an album of 16 songs and there's not one on it that I would skip over. And for $7.99 it's a steal!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent album November 8, 2013

I listened to a few tracks of this album and decided to purchase it. After listening to the entire CD I really enjoyed the music. Although there aren't any tracks that would be considered great, it's still a good album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Run, George, Run! October 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD
This will give George Strait a run for his money for Album of the Year! Way to go Joe! It's been awhile since Joe's last album, "It's All Good." That was a great effort, but without much radio time, it didn't get the credit it deserved. I hope Joe's people really push this album because it is definately worth it. Joe's sound, much like George and Alan, bring a breath of fresh air to country radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent November 7, 2013

Haven't heard from Joe in a while but good to hear him again. There are too many "country" artists out there now that are not very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joe Nichols Keeps It Neo-Traditional October 31, 2013
By Emgee
Format:Audio CD
Joe Nichols is one of those under-appreciated artists who consistently puts out solid albums but, much like Gary Allan, only receives sporadic radio/commercial success. This is largely due to the fact that he remains largely a neo-traditionalist.

While some songs on his new album veer into the more contemporary commercial realm (e.g. "Yeah" and "Sunny and 75,") he still manages to do it in a way that is relaxing and country at its heart. While "Sunny and 75" is definitely a standout track on the album, most of the other standout tracks are the ones which are firmly planted in that traditionalist sphere...the aptly titled "Old School Country Song," the Merle Haggard cover "Footlights," and the beautiful "Just Let Me Fall In Love With You."

Nichols is a true artist, one who deserves more attention than he receives. "Crickets" is another fine album from a great singer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A forever fan October 27, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I love this CD just as much as all the other one's I have in my music library. I am an eclectic music lover and collector. I bought this CD sight and unheard when I heard that Joe had put out another CD. It is just as good as all the other's and I have to say that "Better than Beautiful" is my favorite track. It brings tears to my eyes and it a beautiful love song. I'm not sure if it will get wide spread airplay but it should because it is that good!

Thank you, Joe for the wonderful music yet again.
