Cricut Essentials Kit for Cricut Cutting Machines

I didn't want to purchase this because of the price (by the way you can get this at JoAnn's for a lot less than the listed price here.) However, after I tried a cartridge that had tiny little pieces that had to be pushed out after the paper was cut, the blade tool and the stylus tool help you cut and push out any stubborn pieces that are difficult to push out with just your fingers because they are either too small or are part of a very intricate design with lots of tiny cuts. The bone folder is a bit flimsy, getting the extra spatual was nice since they gum up quickly and the scissors were nothing special, just cute as part of a "matching" set with the cricut logo (the rubber handle is very comfortable). It would be nice if all these items were sold a'la carte. The packaging is excessive but the tools are actually in a carrying case that can be zippered up if you take classes etc. Since the cricut machine is so expensive its hard to add to the cost by purchasing this kit at the same time, but if you have cartridges that have intricate cuts, the tools are very helpful to have. Its a nice little "starter kit" if you haven't purchased any tools already. But there are alternatives that you can purchase one at a time as you need them.

I own a Cricut expressions machine. The Cutting mats in this Cricut kit measure 6" x 12" and are NOT meant for use with the cricut expression, but rather the cricut personal electric cutter. I understood this when I bought the kit. Nonetheless, I think this is a priceless kit for any Cricut owner. I use the cutting mats when I need to cut out stencil shapes or anything else with a hand precision cutter. Every other item is useful for use with any Cricut - even the two stack of papers, as your Cricut Expressions does not need a full 12 x 12 size paper to make a cut. The paper stack aren't high quality cardstock though. They're definitely thicker than printing paper but not as thick as the average card stacks that scrapbookers usually get. I had no cricut tools before this, so the whole package was useful. Others who already have some of the tools a la carte may feel purchasing the whole kit is a waste of money. I use the scrapper and spatula the most - the scrapper for cleaning the mat after use, and the spatula for lifting images off the sticky mat without damaging delicate shapes and fonts. For me, the scorer/bone folder is good for marking places (without ink or lead) when measuring, as oppose to actually folding. The small pair of scissors were pretty descent...sharper than I expected. The ruler can be useful but it is nothing special to say about that. You can never have too many extra blades, so the two extra blades were great to have. The pointy hook tool in the zipper case is also great, I find it useful when I need to poke out tiny holes(like eyes) in some of my shape cuts. Finally, the paper trimmer... I have yet to use it but I find as a crafter, you can never have too many trimmers/cutters - this is my third.

You definitely need the scraper to remove the unwanted paper from the mat.. its easy to use. The hook is another tool that I use a lot for the small circles. I actually bought the 7 piece tool kit

I love the tool kit. I broke one of my mats before I had the spatula so I think it is well worth the cash. Watch out the mat and paper size is 6 X 12 NOT the typical 12x12 for the expression. I tried to load the mat like the smaller personal cutter machine and the mat slides around. My solution? I trimmed the mat slightly to fit into my expression by the 12" side and now use it length wise.

I purchased the Cricut Essentials kit and was a little disappointed that the mats are for the smaller Cricut. But I fixed the problem. I simply cut the green margins off the two ends of the mats and matched them together. I taped the back with clear packaging tape and I am able to feed the mats together as a 12 by 12. I used the smaller papers supplied and can cut several colors at a time on each mat. I love all the tools and couldn't get along without them. Also another tip...when the spatula gets gummed up from rubbing on the sticky mat, use Goof Off or some other sticker remover product. It cleans it up and you are able to remove the paper from the mat with a clean spatula. I liked this product so much, I ordered another one for my daughter.

This is the perfect compliment for Cricut users, especially those who purchased the Imagine. The only item that you can not use with the Imagine is the mat, but I figured I can never have too many cutting mats. I love the paper and cardstock that comes with this package as well.
