Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Praising this "fresh slant on the boy trickster of fable," PW noted that "the pictures are comic, lushly colored views, particularly amusing when they focus on the urbane wolf." Ages 5-up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, October 19, 1999
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Boy Who Cried Wolf (Pied Piper Paperbacks) (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my 4 year old daughter to address the importance of telling the truth. What I recieved was a book with graphic violence for example instead of eating sheep this wolf is eating the nieghbors and finally the little boy himself. The wolf is shown picking his teeth while a pile of bones and clothing lay on the floor beside him. This book is also sexually explicit because it depicts the boy naked from behind with a penis hanging between his legs. Because of the content of the book the message of honesty was lost. Instead of a lesson in honesty my daughter recieved a lesson in sexuality and violence.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like it., September 12, 2005
This review is from: The Boy Who Cried Wolf (Pied Piper Paperbacks) (Paperback)
Didn't like this book as much as the story I remember as a child. I think this book didn't tell the "old-time" story of the Little Boy that Cried Wolf. I know it is supposed to teach a lesson, but my 4 year old won't let me read it to him again because he says it is too scary.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moral tale with a twist, July 12, 2005
By
This review is from: The Boy Who Cried Wolf (Hardcover)
This is a great picture book for an older child. The end is not the traditional ending and would upset younger children. The illustrations are humorous and add a lighthearted feel to the book.

The bottom line: Enjoy this book, but read it with discrection.
