2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Stay Interested In
I read Ravi Zacharias in Joe Gibbs "Game Plan for Life", which by the way is an outstanding book. In that book, I really enjoyed the way Mr. Zacharias wrote, it was a great entry and he talked like I could understand. Now I am not a scholar, but I'm not dumb, but to me, this book was all I could do to get through the first chapter awake. Not to mention had to keep a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Honors the Mind, yet gives comfort to the Heart, December 13, 1999
By
This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Hardcover)
As a student of Philosophy and have been studying the problem of Evil (theodicy) for a number of years now, this book is long over due. Now there are an innumerable amount of books on this issue, what makes this book any better you may ask? Three points on that 1) I never said it is better, but it is necessary and culturally relevant for our understanding today. 2) Most books in this area deal with the question in either an esoteric philosophical or theological way, that leaves our heart out in the cold, or they warm the heart, and leave the mind out to freeze to intellectual death. Where are the books NOW that honor the mind and give comfort to the heart! I present this book by Dr. Zacharias as not only helpful in dealing with the perplexing questions that have philosophers holding their head in heart wrenching sweat, but also for the young spouse who just lost their best friend in a destructive fire. Most of all it helps to shine the Light of the SON on the shadow of evil. Give it a chance. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic in our Midst, February 25, 2000
This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Hardcover)
Dr. Zacharia presents a compelling argument for the nearness, constancy, sovereignty and omnipotence of God in our daily life. He presents these concepts in a new format. A format compose of an elegant style, blend with theology and philosophy at a personal level. St. Agustin was right when he said "the true philosopher is the lover of God". No doubt that this book addresses the pain and longings of our generation, perhaps of our species. His chapter about "the cry to know God" is the best introduction I've read so far, and the rest of the book gets better. Defenetly Cries of the Heart will became a classic!

Ravi Zacharias articulates answers to life's deepest problems in a manner that satisfies both the mind and the heart. Both his intellect and his compassion are evident in this work which has bolstered my faith and helped me to find meaning in spite of difficult circumstances. A book I will reread frequently.

This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Paperback)
Ravi Zacharias hits the nail on the head with this one. One of the best books I have ever read. Whether you are an avid reader of religious materials or not, Ravi uses easy to understand illustrations to answer and explain some of lifes most puzzling questions. Great gift for someone who has or is going through some difficult trials in life and is wondering why.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little nuggets of truth,, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Paperback)
Some might read this book for its deep philisophical and theological truths, but when I read this book I was looking for God to speak to me about a certain situation in my life. I was not disappointed. My favorite chapter was "The Cry to Feel My Faith". Zacharias challenges the reader to ask themself what emotional trappings, prejudices, insecurities, and indisciplines have you brought to your relationship with God? He goes into great depth to answer this question, but to put it very simply Zacharias says at the end of the chapter, "Bring your feelings to the cross. Entrust them into his care, and he will guard them for you."

I would recommend this book to anyone going through a time of suffering, or if you just have some basic questions about your relationship with God. Be prepared, however, to spend a little extra time reading this book it is deep!

5.0 out of 5 stars Logical Christian perspectivies on the issues of human suffering, February 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Paperback)
Let me first say that I have heard Dr. Ravi Zacharias speak in defense of the Christian faith. I consider him to be at the forefront of apologetics in providing logically constructive arguments for Christianity. So when I picked up this book I was looking to probe further into the philosophical foundations of the Christian faith.

I commend Dr. Zacharias on delivering on what I had expected. There are just too many treasure doves of insightful thinking found within the book. The illustrations and foundational thinking have impacted my view on issues of feelings, suffering, life, love, and redemption.

The book attempts to cover many different aspects of the human heart. Scripture is well versed and meaningful passages are extrapolated for the reader to ponder upon. Writers such as G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis are quoted to provide correlating points of reference throughout the book.

The issues are diverse but the author is able to connect all the points with a graceful flow. Of all the issues that Dr. Zacharias comes across, the cry for love is more prevalent. Far from being a romance, he is addressing the need of the human heart for a love beyond what most people even think about. Without giving out too much information I would simply like to say that I recommend this book to others looking into exploring the world view of the Christian faith.

This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Paperback)
I first became familiar with Ravi on Sunday a.m. radio on the local Christian station. His voice irritated me, but his messages were loud and very clear. I enjoyed listening to him so I bought this book based on other's reviews. It is an outstanding thought-provoking Christian oriented book. This man speaks with logic and intelligence. I had to read and re-read many parts because of the depth of the subjects he addresses. But I thoroughly enjoyed his message and interpretations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, November 5, 2011

This review is from: Cries of The Heart (Paperback)
Ravi Zacharias always amazes me with his ability to think logically and break down everyday struggles into the the little choices that we make and how we deal with those. He does that with great empathy and a non-judgmental attitude. This is a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone who has ever fallen short...aka everyone.
