CSI in my classroom, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Crime Lab Chemistry (Old Edition) (Great Explorations in Math & Science) (Paperback)
This has been a wonderful ready made book of lessons terrific for this time of the year when attention spans are waning. It addresses gas chromatography through using 9 different ink pens and having kids put coffee filters into water and letting the water bleed the ink upward, showing that each ink has its own signature. It has another mystery for kids to solve once they have gotten the procedure down. This would be great for about 3 70 minute periods (with some extra padding) or 3 50-minute periods easily. I paired this with the fingerprinting book and finished up with an episode of CSI dealing with twins and fingerprints. What fun!

This book has two really fun activities to do with children in grades 4-6. The children will be involved in solving a crime. The supplies you will need to do these activities can usually be found in your own home.
