Crime Control in America introduces readers to the many methods of crime control and reviews the research concerning their effectiveness.

The text covers policing, prosecution and courts, and legislative methods of crime control. It also moves beyond the justice system and examines the effectiveness of crime control at the individual, family, school, and community levels.  Finally, it covers environmental criminology, juvenile crime control, and explanations of large-scale crime trends, particularly the reductions witnessed during the 1990s.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This text is thorough and exacting in its coverage, and it is a reliable review of the evidence. It is profound in its organizational and presentation logic. It is that best of things in a book: authoritative.  -- Todd Clear, John Jay College of Criminal Justice  --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

What the reviewers are saying …

Worrall’s “coverage is the most extensive and fresh that I have seen.”

Brian Renauer, Portland State University

Worrall  “was successful in achieving his goal of creating a text with an expansive selection of policies.  He certainly covers the critical issues facing crime control, and does so with a fair and balanced approach.  I appreciate his straightforwardness in presenting both sides of the issue.”

Ronald Burns, Texas Christian University

“Worrall did an excellent job of describing and evaluating crime control in America.  He focused on current crime problems and offered approaches and solutions to law enforcement.  The descriptions on the hard and soft sciences contained a higher level of thinking and will challenge students to ‘think outside the box.’”

Barbara Cox, Gardner- Webb University

5.0 out of 5 stars The best crime control book ever., August 22, 2010

This review is from: Crime Control in America: What Works? (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This book helps open one's perception of crime control while covering several positions on the topics. Easy to follow and understand. Note that some terminalogy may by refered to differently in other texts. Despite this, it helps to develope a better understanding of how crime is approached while examining findings of effectiveness. One of the best books in my personal libary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crime Control in America: What Works? (2nd ed.), November 2, 2009

Book's in excellent shape. It is interesting that there is not only a full glossary but also a full index. Some books I have purchased for my criminal justice classes have little or no index which makes things difficult. This book has a nice and functional index.
