3.0 out of 5 stars Different type of romance. This plot is a new one for me., December 30, 2002

Back cover description: A CRIME OF THE HEART. Surely the old scandal about outsider Quinn Tyler and Amishman Adam Sauder was all but forgotten. And no one knew the true extent of their "sin"--that Quinn had borne Adam's child. World-weary and hungry for a simpler life, Quinn was going home to Lancaster County. Only nothing was simple anymore. Adam still wanted her--though he damned his wanting. And Quinn yearned for him like the missing half of her soul. But his people had accused her of an unforgivable crime, and if she let Adam back into her heart, they'd find him guilty, too.

Good twists and turns in this book. You really feel for both Quinn and Adam. She has tried to leave him behind, but finds she can't do it after all. And Adam has loved her forever. You are set up to think that Adam's younger brother is his son, but he's not. The ending is not your typical "and they lived happily ever after". These are adults who have made mistakes, and are trying to love and be loved. If you have read any other books by Ms. Reavis, try this one. It's different and unusual

A CRIME OF THE HEART is a poignant tale of "forbidden" love, with a quality of the writing and research that truly raises the level of this Cheryl Reavis romance.

Release Date- November 1988
From the Back Cover-
Surely the old scandal about outsider Quinn Tyler and Amishman Adam Sauder was all but forgotten. And no one knew the true extent of their "sin"- that Quinn had borne Adam's child. World-weary and hungry for a simpler life, Quinn was going home to Lancaster County.

Only nothing was simple anymore. Adam still wanted her - though he damned his wanting. And Quinn yearned for him like the missing half of her soul. But his people had accused her of an unforgivable crime, and if she let Adam back into her heart, they'd find him guilty, too.

My Review-
Cheryl Reavis does a nice job with this poignant tale and she does keep her story from becoming too overly sentimental. A CRIME OF THE HEART has a good-hearted heroine; a kind, gentle hero; and a "damned if you do - and damned if you don't" setting, all of which combine to make this a prize-winning read. So why the slip from A+? In this reader's opinion, A+ is perfection and the following concern warranted my rating slide. Adam and Quinn are no longer teenagers driven by raging hormones. They are two mature adults and front and center is Adam's Amish upbringing. Ms. Reavis chose to have the characters engage in adult premarital sex play; won't it lend more support to Adam's Amish beliefs if they had waited until their wedding night? However, this is nothing but a stumble in an otherwise terrific tale.

Here is an author at her finest . . . and make no doubt about it, in A CRIME OF THE HEART Cheryl Reavis is at her finest.

Rating: A
Sensuality: Warm
MaryGrace Meloche.
