The bane of human existence, as old as Cain and Abel, crime and murder flourish where law and order is...
scarce
or understaffed and overworked,
or even too far distant.
The first four stories deal with crimes from the period of the American expansion west across the, as yet untamed, frontier. While written as fiction, two of these stories are based on true crimes and actual criminals.
The next four stories are written in and deal with crime and murder in the present time. Here, the land is civilized but how can civilization and law enforcement keep up with the population, much less keep it safe? And, how can the legal authorities keep up with the criminals who strike anywhere, at any time?
The last four stories venture to take a look at the future, where mankind is once again exploring new frontiers. Now, even with modern crime detection methods and skills, we must once again face the depredations of those who know the nearest police are a long way away.
In This work, we can see the past, present and future of law enforcement, written by a person whose career has given him a close aquaintance with the subject!
