More Factual Than CSI,

This review is from: Crime Scene Chemistry for the Armchair Sleuth (Hardcover)
An introduction to the basic science behind forensic chemistry, this book gives a realistic appraisal of the time and levels of certainty behind the ta-da of television and movies. It includes experiments using common household products for those of us who wished we had gotten a chemistry set for Christmas. Highly recommended for mystery writers.

My students read this book and like it. One or two have done reports on it. I would have liked more content and depth. For me it was a little thin. For my students, it's just right.

An affable enough book, but it didn't seem to cover the territory between the "CSI" shows on television and formal texts on Forensic Chemistry. Makes a good gift for a science-minded teenager.

It's a 'must' for any serious college-level library strong in either chemistry or criminal science.,

Law enforcement processes depend heavily upon chemistry to analyze crime findings and build cases: that's why CRIME SCENE CHEMISTRY is so important an acquisition for any college-level collection strong in either science or criminology. Chapters follow a chemist and a reserve police officer to examine just how evidence is collected and what happens in the field of forensic chemistry, surveying the testing and analytical processes involved in gathering evidence. It's a 'must' for any serious college-level library strong in either chemistry or criminal science.

I bought this book on a whim, I figured I liked chemistry and I like forensic science so I will like this book, right? Well, the chemistry was dead on, and most of the "cases" were interesting but what I didn't expect was that it would have experiments that you practically have to do to understand everything. They were simple and seem like they would be good, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. If you have the time to do these and read the book, I highly recommend this book but if you were like me and just want a book that is a good read with minimal effort to go out and buy more stuff then look for another.
