Book Description

This unique resource offers activities in earth, life, and physical science as well as science inquiry and technology. The Grades 6-12 level book provides labs on life, physical, and earth science as well as critical thinking. Like real-life forensic scientists, students observe carefully, organize, and record data, think critically, and conduct simple tests to solve crimes like theft, dog-napping, vandalism and water pollution. For added fun, each resource features an original cartoon character, Investi Gator for the Elementary level and Crime Cat for Grades 6-12. All activities include complete background information with step-by-step procedures for the teacher and reproducible student worksheets. Whatever the teacher's training or experience in teaching science, Crime Scene Investigations can be an intriguing supplement to instruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL book -- especially for home-schoolers!, February 17, 2005

I used this book in home-schooling my god-daughter at the eighth grade level. She LOVED every minute in this book, and it was a great incentive for "Finish your other work first!"

The editorial review is accurate in every way. The more advanced labs were easily adaptable, and were a good motivation to achieve "advanced level" labs.

Classroom teachers will find this to be a terrific resource -- and an outstanding source for substitute teachers' lesson plans. Imagine: a substitute teacher who actually TEACHES something in your absence! (Careful though, the kids might not want you back...)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, July 16, 2005
This review is from: Crime Scene Investigations: Real-Life Science Labs For Grades 6-12 (Paperback)
I really enjoyed using this book with my students. The kids really got into the activities. Works well with mixed grouping of students. If you have younger students there is another book, and it is good also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Info - Terrible layout, October 2, 2006
This review is from: Crime Scene Investigations: Real-Life Science Labs For Grades 6-12 (Paperback)
The book is great, and with very useful information. However, I have a class of 20 students of whom I purchased books for a high school Forensics class, and after receiving the books, I realized that the answers are within the text. This would be OK (maybe) if the answers were on a separate page that I could have removed from the books, but instead, the answers are intermingled with important information. I purchased labels to cover up all of the answers within each book. This was not the best solution, and I wish there was either a separate answer key, or the answers were in the back of each book. I found out that some of the students removed the labels. I wish I would have realized this before my purchase, as I may have had to search for another book. This too, would have been unfortunate, as the class would have missed out on some great experiments.
