The Begining of a Great Band,
By E. Squiz (Columbus, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crime, as Forgiven By Against Me! (Audio CD)
One of the best things about collecting everything a favorite band has done is hearing the evolution from the rough, early days to the tight, polished band of now. This record definately falls into the 'early days' category-it alomst sounds like a demo. There are early versions of the songs "I Still Love You Juile" and "Walking is Still Honest", tunes they later evolved on their classic album "Reinventing Axl Rose". These versions are rough, jagged, and much like the rest of this record, infused with heart, intensity, and love for the music. "What We Worked For" features lyrical reflection on the love of touring and community. This band never fails to make me want to pack my car, grab my friends, and hit the road. "Y'all Don't Wanna Step to Dis" and "Impact" are frentic, fast paced punk tunes with socially concious lyrics. The record closes with the country-inspired punk song "Burn". Johnny Cash fans will hear the Man in Black's influence on this tune-not that that's a bad thing. This song will get you going-it's great played at loud volumes with your friends in the room and a drink in your hand. Great little punk EP-I would recommend it to anyone who likes heartfelt music. However, if you're a fan of the band you absolutely need this album--as Mikey said in "The Goonies": "It all starts here".

Oh, Lord.,
This review is from: Crime, as Forgiven By Against Me! (Audio CD)
The best damn album I have ever had pleasure of laying my ears upon.
Socially aware, heartfelt, and absolutely gorgeous. I can safely say this is one of those possessions that help me get up in the morning. Although, I recommend the vinyl 7" over the CD any day. Actually get them both. The vinyl doesn't include 'Burn' or 'Impact'.

Against Me! at their begining (and peak),

This review is from: Crime, as Forgiven By Against Me! (Audio CD)
This is the Against Me! that I love: energetic, raw, and fun. The music is stripped down to a guitar and a drum set. It's a good companion to their Reinventing Axl Rose album, sharing two of the songs. The only fault I have with this EP is that I like the album version of Walking Is Still Honest better than this version.
