5.0 out of 5 stars Crimes of the Dreamer, July 25, 2005
This review is from: Crimes of the Dreamer: Poems (Paperback)
How is poetry born? In Crimes of the Dreamer, Naomi Lowinsky says that:

"The word climbs out of the sea
where there have been so many
in and out of each other's bellies."

Once those words emerge:

"i string my own pearls down the tunnels of night
i follow my own thread."

And so she does follow her own thread, weave her own prayer shawl. These are poems from a poet

"who is
all magnetism
hot core
cold sky rock
bright mist veils her
who spins
the invisible
thread - "

To slightly paraphrase, Wordsworth said that poetry is strong emotion recollected in tranquility. Naomi Lowinsky's poetry dives down into the depths that underlie that strong emotion and brings up the rock deep symbols that lie beneath them. Her poems are confessional in the deepest sense, not merely confessing the "crimes of the dreamer," but the longings and revelations of someone who has:
"padded through your dreams
as lion
as tiger."

This is touching, powerful, lovely poetry that speaks to the inner life of every man and woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Collection of Poems, May 24, 2005

This review is from: Crimes of the Dreamer: Poems (Paperback)
Naomi Ruth Lowinsky has done it again, and beyond. Her STORIES FROM THE MOTHERLINE moved me deeply, and then her poems in RED CLAY TALKING. Now I'm immersed in the new breathtaking collection from a treasured poet and colleague, a "sister-in-dreaming." In CRIMES OF THE DREAMER, Lowinsky's poems are infused with the animal body - and at the same time spiritual heritage of sensations, feelings, emotions, multi-sensory imagination, spontaneous physical action. Similar to psychotherapy and analysis as it is meant to be, the encounter is joyful, insightful, deeply moving -- at once limitless and well held. Don't miss it! She brings us the food and water of life.
