5.0 out of 5 stars Bring Back That O.G. Style, June 16, 2004

This album is definitely for real G's only. It's got classic style gangsta beats that a O.G. can relate to (Three Wheeling, Dope Dealing, and Cap Peeling).
That's riiight!! I wish other rappers that's on the same level as these three heavy weights would bring back that O.G. style. Check out Puttin' In Work, What They Hittin Fo', and Rollin' Wit My Folks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gangsta collaboration, July 19, 2005

"Criminal Activity" is a group poject which unites 3 of the hardest West Coast rappers - Spice 1, Celly Cel and Jayo Felony. The album was released on Celly Cel's label Records and it was one of the best albums in 2001. The production is top notch, straight West Coast Gangsta sh**, nothing less. The beats are bangin', both the hard ones and the laid-back ones. Celly Cel is at the top of his game, legendary Spice 1 rarely dissapoints, and even though I never really felt Jayo's style, on this kind of record, he comes out quite well with some heated verses. The guest rappers are all top of the line guests and they all do great job - Yukmouth (who just tears the song appart of his agressive thugged out verse), Tray Dee, Bun B and Silk-E-Fine. Lyrically and in terms of flow, The Criminals do not dissapoint - the album is straight gangsta, real sh** from the streets, with a bit of baller/playa mentality. There isn't even one song not worth listening to, and it's an album you can bump to the fullest. This "group" (they were never really a group, they just collaborated for one album) will probably never re-unite, but it's a rare thing to get 3 big names (for the West, that is) and big egos to work together on a whole album. And the result is beautiful, they've got great chemistry together. I think this album will be considered a classic in a few years, since those guys are true O.G.s in this rap game.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved this one!, September 16, 2001

I thought the first ten tracks on this album were all off the hook. You got three diverse rappers coming together to put together a quality album at a time when people are coming together, throwin down tracks and putting out sloppy collaborations. It is a bit short, but I still liked it. The fifth track titled, "N***az Like Us" was way too saucy. Celly Cel came out busting with quick line transitions that had my heart pumping. I would say that this was a must buy in a year that has seen a lot of high quality rap albums get released.

Celly Cel recruited Spice 1 and Jayo Felony (although he had to be taken off the cover due to legal problems - he's still on 7 of the 11 songs) to put together the "tightest group since n.w.a & the geto boys" as he puts it. Although Celly Cel is much weaker than the other 2 (and tries to sound like Spice 1) - (Bullet Loco & Speezy Ace are 2 of my top 10 favorite rappers) this cd is quality and a must have.

#2 - 6 (celly cel re-does Spice 1's early '90 hit "187Proof")

#3 - 8 (celly, spice & jayo)

#4 - 8.5 (celly, spice & jayo)

#5 - 7.5 (celly, spic, bun b {of UGK} & sylk)

#6 - 8 (spice, jayo & celly)

#7 - 9.5 (spice 1, yukmouth, jayo felony, tray deee - also on Spice 1's "Playa Rich Project vol. 1")

#8 - 7 (spice & celly)

#9 - 7.5 (spice, jayo, celly)

#10 - 9.5 (jayo, spice & celly)

#11 - 9.5 (spice, celly & jayo)

#12 - 9.5 (spice 1 & celly cel)

Celly Cel --- b. Marcellius McCarver - Vallejo, CA

Spice 1 --- b. Robert Lee Green in Texas around 1971 - moved to Hayward, CA

Jayo Felony --- b. J. Savage - San Diego, CA

The Criminalz "Criminal Activity" is a good album. The album has a tight east coast vibe to it. It is a bit on the short side, but that's the only strong negatives I can give it. Also-It should be noted that the Criminalz also includes Jayo Felony eventhough he is just listed as a guest for legal reasons. The CD also features UGK and Tray Dee. This CD isn't a must buy. Must buys are reserved for the likes the Eastsidaz "Duces and Trayz" and Kurupt's "Space Boogie", but if you have some extra cash the Criminalz is not a bad buy.
