Gardner and Anderson cover the key rules of evidence and the applicability of these rules in criminal matters. The authors provide students with an understanding of the rationale behind these rules. This text includes many of the features that have popularized Gardner/Anderson's best-selling CRIMINAL LAW text, including high-interest examples, graphics, photos, and case excerpts. Unlike competing texts, CRIMINAL EVIDENCE: PRINCIPLES AND CASES is not encyclopedic or overwhelming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Criminal Evidence: Principles and Cases, October 1, 1999
By A Customer
CRIMINAL EVIDENCE is a well written textbook that describes the many laws governing different types of evidence. Whether it be fingerprints, photographs or other documents, this book covers it all. It teaches you the laws of Search and Seizure and how the Exclusionary Rule (Fruits of the Poisonous Tree Doctrine/Derivative Evidence Rule) comes about when illegally obtained evidence is presented in court. This book also explains vehicle stops, arrest, and search warrant requirements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evidence at its best, July 26, 2008

(REAL NAME)
After having gone to law school and studying under a prosecutor I took this evidence course using this textbook from a retired Marine JAG officer and it was outstanding. This book is well written and it describes the laws governing different types of evidence. Whether it be verbal statements, hearsay, things said before or after arrest or other documentation, this book covers it all. It applies the laws of Search and Seizure and describes and applies the Exclusionary Rule (Fruits of the Poisonous Tree Doctrine/Derivative Evidence Rule). This book also explains and applies vehicle stops, arrest, and search warrant requirements. Taught by a retired Marine JAG officer and Asst Prosecutor made it that much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars If only all textbooks were worth the price like this one, February 10, 2012
This was required for a course I took and this is one of the best textbooks I have ever used.

I had to take several criminal justice courses and this was my favorite, though all of them were interesting.

This textbook is not dry, even though the subject matter is legal.

The authors provide all aspects of evidence and pose the exceptions and why they exist, whether through court rulings or law.

one of my favorite chapters is on the judical process itself. And of course the limits of witness testimony ( the exceptions and privlege that would prevent a doctor or lawyer from testifying against you, and when they can. ).

It is funny, since I took this course I now can watch courtroom shows and understand the various technical stuff. Or watching court tv.
