5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for new investigators
As a officer I found this book to be a great read. I highly recommend this book to new officers or anyone interested in the investigations field. Everything is covered in this addition. I especially liked the included interrogation and deception detection tips. Why learn this the hard way through trial and error(like many of use do in law enforcement)? This book does not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some of the examples are old, out dated methods
Overall, this text is not bad, although several instructional areas are out-dated material, ie: marking "shell casings, "bullets", on the face, etc. Also, todays training does not include marking handguns on every piece that can be removed, ie: frame, cylinder, barrel, grips, etc.

As a officer I found this book to be a great read. I highly recommend this book to new officers or anyone interested in the investigations field. Everything is covered in this addition. I especially liked the included interrogation and deception detection tips. Why learn this the hard way through trial and error(like many of use do in law enforcement)? This book does not read like a product of academia; which is sometimes stifled and stiff. Instead, the reader is given an insight into police work by an experienced police investigator.

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting the Basics, January 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One of the well detailed and well informed criminal justice books! But.. there's always a but, it has the "basics" of forensic materials. If you want a book that explores every nook and cranny, try a more specific book on Ballistics or Blood Spatter, for example. Overall though, excellent book choice for the basic or rookie criminal justice student or officer.

I ordered 2 of these books, both used, one for my study partner and one for myself. One was in great condition, the other had writing and highlighting throughout the whole book. I was very disappointed! I've ordered many books from Amazon, this is the first time I ordered a high end used book that was a mess. The seller should have stated that she highlighted, wrote and doodled throughout the whole book. I'd be very skeptical to order used again.
