PRAISE FOR THE BOOK

Overall

“We tend to attract students who are pragmatic and seeking real-world applied experience. The Fagin text helps to achieve this for me criminal justice students. The numerous case studies and news items in the text contribute to class discussion and help students understand the relevance of criminal justice to American society.”

Matt DeLisi

Iowa State University

“This book is a highly informative read written at a comprehension level appropriate for university freshman. Moreover, it is well researched and serves well as a general reference book for more advanced students and even occasionally for a faculty researcher when the researcher is looking for initial suggestion for source material for further study or providing  students advice on how to select and proceed with their own term paper and other research.”

Michael Jordan

Lamar University

“I use the Fagin book because it is the only book that allows me to push our students intellectually with a primary focus on CJ Admmin without being too simple or too advanced.”

Michael Jordan

Lamar University

“Fagin’s Criminal Justice is a fun, well-researched, comprehensive text that particularly serves students with an interest in applied, pragmatic criminal justice.”

Matt DeLisi

Iowa State University

“I have used Fagin’s text before (as well as others) and I always return to Fagin. Thank you, Mr Fagin, for your wonderful work.”

Professor Kimora

John Jay College of Criminal Justice

“The writing is clear, to the point, and students respond quite well to the overall text.”

Tracy Tolbert

California State University, Long Beach

“Fagin writes in an informative manner that permits for fast and vast learning. This book is advanced enough for excellent students but still not too advanced for students who are still learning how to learn. It is the best book on the intro to cj market in terms of appealability to a broad audience.”

Michael Jordan

Lamar University

“Fagin is an excellent, post-modern, writer. His experience in law enforcement, and academia, meld together yielding epistemological frameworks that make perfect sense. This is very impressive to me personally since I also have experience in law enforcement, and was trained to write as a graduate student in plain English. I find that students gravitate to the material because it’s simply easy to understand. In this respect the “writing style” of the text is superb.”

Tracy Tolbert

California State University, Long Beach

Chapter : Criminal Law verus Liberty

“Chapter (Criminal Law versus Liberty) does a nice job of showing how the law itself seeks to strike a balance between control and liberty.”

Matt DeLisi

Iowa State University

Chapter 4: Victimology: The Other Side of Crime

Fagin offers a more holistic approach to the problem of victimization. In doing so he avoids the trap that so many of us build for ourselves when focusing mainly on female victimization. The chapter covers a wide range of methodological, theoretical, and substantive frameworks, designed to help us understand the broader issues shaping the study of victimology as a criminal justice concern.

Tracy Tolbert

California State University, Long Beach

Chapter 9: Homeland Security

“The fact that an entire chapter is devoted to Homeland Security is so important.  Students will learn that this is indeed an important area to learn as future criminal justice professionals.”

Professor Kimora

John Jay College of Criminal Justice

Chapter 17: The Juvenile Justice System

“Chapter 17: The Juvenile Justice System is a much welcomed addition to the 2nd edition. I especially like his opening emphasis on the historical aspects of childhood and juvenile delinquency….”

Tracy Tolbert

California State University, Long Beach

“I like the constant intersection between theory and substance particularly the way he presents “real life” scenarios (lee Boyd Mlavo, Michael Jackson, et al).”

Tracy Tolbert

California State University, Long Beach

Chapter-Ending Pedagogy

“As a professor, I treasure this section of the chapter. All of the information provided is very important. All the elements are very valuable as learning tools and as study guides for the students.”

Professor Kimora

John Jay College of Criminal Justice

"I have used his text before (as well as others) and I always return to Fagin. Thank you, Mr. Fagin, for your wonderful work!" Professor Kimora, John Jay College of Criminal Justice

This is a great book. I had to purchase it for my intro to criminal justice class. It is very useful if you want to learn a great deal about the system. I read almost all the chapters in the book before i was supposed to.
