About the Author
Stan Stojkovic joined the faculty at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in the fall of 1983 and is Professor of Criminal Justice and Associate Dean in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare. His primary teaching responsibilities are in the areas of public administration, philosophy, and criminal justice and criminology. His major research interest is in the area of correctional administration. He has also written an introductory text on corrections with Rick Lovell. In addition, he is coordinator of the California Leadership Institute for the California Department of Corrections.
John M. Klofas is Professor of Criminal Justice at Rochester Institute of Technology and Chairperson of the Department of Criminal Justice. Professor Klofas worked in adult and juvenile probation in Massachusetts. He has served as a caseworker in the state's maximum-security penitentiary, and has served as Director of Classification for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. He is an active member of several professional organizations in the field of Criminal Justice, and he reviews for a variety of journals. He consults with national agencies on crime research and policy. Dr. Klofas is also a founding trustee of Metropolitan Forum, a citizens group interested in metropolitan analyses and solutions to community problems. He has been involved in violence prevention and reduction efforts in the community.
Professor Klofas' research has been in the areas of criminal justice management, crime policy, and prison and jail issues, including crowding. He has published a wide range of journal articles and book chapters on these subjects. His current interests are in management in criminal justice and corrections and in metropolitan patterns of crime and justice. He is also interested in public information on crime and justice and presents frequently to local organizations and media and has written a regular column for "City Newspaper". In May 1999, Professor Klofas received the Adolf J. Rodenbeck Award from the Monroe County Bar Association for his "commitment to public education and serious analysis and study of some of the community's most pressing policy issues." Most recently Professor Klofas, in partnership with Don Pryor of the Center for Governmental Research, received support from the National Institute of Justice for a project involving working with the local criminal justice system in strategic research efforts to reduce community violence.
